يا من فدت نفسه نفسي ومن جُعلتْ

له وقاء لما يخشى واخشاهُ

O you who sacrificed yourself for my soul, and for whom

I was made a protection from what is feared, and I feared him,

أبلغِ أخانا أدام اللّه نعمته

أنّي وإن كنت لا ألقاه ألقاهُ

Convey to our brother, may God prolong his bounty,

That I, though I do not meet with him, meet with him,

وإنَّ طرفي موصول برؤيته

وإن تباعد عن مثواي مثواهُ

And though my gaze is connected with seeing him

And his abode is far from my abode,

ما نعمة قدمت عندي ولا حدثت

إلاّ ومنه بها أحظاني اللّهُ

No blessing was bestowed upon me or happened

Except through him Allah granted me its delight,

ولا بلاء جميل جرَّ لي حسنا

إلاّ به نلت أولاه وأُخراهُ

And no beautiful affliction brought me goodness

Except through it I attained its beginning and its end,

اللّه يعلم أنى لست اذكره

وكيف يذكره من ليس ينساهُ

Allah knows I do not remember him

And how can he be remembered by one who does not forget him,

عُدّوا فهل حَسَن لم يحوه حَسَن

وهل فتى عدلت جدواه جدواهُ

Count them - did the good he did not contain goodness?

And has any youth's generosity matched his generosity?

البحر يفنى ولا تفنى مكارمه

والقطر يحصى ولا تحصى عطاياه

The sea diminishes but his virtues do not diminish,

And drops are counted but his gifts are uncountable,

أراني اللّه ما قلبي يزاوله

وحاطه وتولاّه وأبقاه

May Allah show me what my heart busies itself with,

And protect it, take care of it, and keep it alive,

لا شيء مما نرى إلاّ له شبه

وما لكم آل إبراهيم أشباهُ

There is nothing of what we see but that it resembles Him,

And what likenesses do you have, O family of Abraham?

لي حبيب أنا أهوا

هُ على ما كان فيهِ

I have a beloved whom I love,

He is as he was,

لي موتان بجبي

ه وبغضي لأبيهِ

I have two deaths in my soul,

My love for him and my hatred for his father,

ليس بفضي لأبيه

دون بفضي لأخيه

It is not for his father’s sake

But for his brother’s sake,

أشتهي موتهما مث

ل اشتهائي لثم فيهِ

I desire both their deaths

As I desire a kiss from him.
