قد كتبت الكتاب ثم مضى اليو

م ولم أدر ما جواب الكتاب

I wrote the letter then the day passed by

And I do not know the answer to the letter

ليت شعري عن الأمير لماذا

لا يراني أهلاً لردّ الجوابِ

I wonder why the prince does not

See me as worthy of a reply

لا تدعني وأنت رفّعت حالي

ذا انخفاض بهجرتي واجتنابي

Do not abandon me when you have raised my status

With this estrangement and avoidance of me

إن أكن مذنباً فعندي رجوع

وبلاء بالعذر والأعتابِ

If I have sinned, I will make amends

And atone with apologies and reproaches

وأنا الصادق الوفاء وذو العه

د الوثيق المؤكد الأسبابِ

For I am truthful, loyal, and steadfast

In my covenants and promises
