ضربَ التجيبيُّ المضلَّلُ ضربةً

ردّت بناتةَ في بني شيبانا

ردّت بناتةَ في بني شيبانا

The deluded Tujībī struck a blow

The misguided Al-Tajeebee struck a blow

that sent Banāta back among the sons of Shaybān.

That echoed among the maidens of Bani Shaybana

والعائذيُّ لمثلها متوقع

والعائذيُّ لمثلها متوقع

لمّا يكن وكأنه قد كانا

لمّا يكن وكأنه قد كانا

And the ʿĀʾidhī awaits another like it—

And the refugee, expecting the same for himself

not yet come, yet as though it had already been.
