رملُ هل تذكرين يوم غزال

إذ قطعنا مسيرنا بالتمنِّي

The sands, do you remember the day of the gazelle

When we crossed the desert lost in yearning

إذ تقولين عمرَك اللهُ هل شيئاً

وإن جلَّ سوف يسلِّيك عني

When you said: May God prolong your life! Is that all?

Though much time passes, my eyes will comfort you

أم هل أُطعمتُ منكم يابن حسّا

نَ كما قد أراك أُطمعتَ مني

Or have I, O son of Hassa, been fed by you

As I see you have hoped to be fed by me?
