May God judge you on the day of division alone,
Until He decreed the allotment of neighbors in generosity,
Until when the allotment of meanness was decreed, He said to you:
Go your own way among the peoples of the past.
O you who ride a piebald, slowing his pace,
If you meet questioners about the Sons of Wisdom,
Who, when they met their enemy,
Fled and attacked the women and cattle,
And clung to a tribe not their own,
Like hawks mixing with carrion-eating vultures,
Do not let the cloaks and shirts deceive you,
For their wearers were suckled by sheep.
How many a trusted, pure-hearted counselor said to you:
Why did you not forbid your brother, O Sons of Wisdom,
From a man neither hateful among his tribe
Nor disgraced, of noble stock, steadfast?
For your mother was accursed,
Who stayed up late and shepherded the confused thoughts,
She grew up accursed, harmful, injurious,
Like a fly, neither married nor faithful.
