أعفّاء تحسَبُهم للحيا
ء مرضى تطاولَ أسقامُها
So chaste, you would think them, from modesty—
The tolerant you take for cowards
sick, their illnesses long prolonged;
Whose lingering illness made them weak
يهون عليهم إذا يغضبو
ن سُخطُ العِداة وإرغامُها
yet when they grow angry, they make light of
They care not when angered
their enemies’ wrath and humiliation,
By the wrath and coercion of foes
ورَتقُ الفتوق وفتقُ الرتوقِ
ونقض الأمور وإبرامها
the mending of breaches and the breaking of bonds,
Joining rifts and mending bonds
the undoing of affairs and their settlement.
