1. Indeed, all my aspiration is toward the heights;

    toward drinking from her cup, I am thirsty and parched.

  2. I never ceased drawing her near, while she recoiled from my hand,

    until I attained the most glorious station

  3. through serving the master, the son of the master—

    the benefactor, son of the honored, son of the valiant helper,

  4. the peerless Solomon of the age,

    succor of one crying for help and aid of the petitioner;

  5. the keen-witted, discerning Indian blade,

    who silences anyone debating him in heated contention—

  6. among his peers, no equal has been found.

    In disputation, his speech is like honey.

  7. He has writings by which one finds guidance.

    He attained a towering excellence never known before.

  8. He surpassed the luminaries in the fashioning of literature.

    His book—how much literary excellence he displayed within it!

  9. There he made clear what had been hidden from the Arabs,

    and through it attained every lofty rank.

  10. In our age, his equal has not been found

    in knowledge and understanding, generosity and earnest striving,

  11. nor in courage when death draws near.

    You meet him like a meteor above Farqad,

  12. scattering armies like a lion;

    when he charges his foes, the hosts don armor.

  13. O master, in your glory and lordly eminence,

    blessed be your wedding; abide in ease,

  14. and prosper in concord and sons.

    With life's sweetness, rub the nose of the envious in dust.

  15. May you never cease capturing every graceful beauty,

    and remain the best master among your peers.

  16. Trail the robes of joy, exultant;

    may you remain joyful in every age,

  17. while whoever hates you ever laments in sorrow,

    amid straitened life and a most wretched age.

  18. O bountiful one, you have gathered what was never known

    in noble virtues never seen in any place.

  19. You have attained distinction that crushes the envier,

    who now groans “ah!” and now puffs with rage.

  20. He says, displaying wonder that cannot be effaced:

    “Have you ever seen this before in Tishrin?” They gave its chronogram:

  21. “The sun shone in the mansions of Leo.”
