1. بشراكمُ بسعادةٍ وهناءِ

    يا أهل تلك المَوصل الحدباءِ

    I bring you glad tidings of happiness and delight

    O people of Mosul the hunchbacked

  2. بشراكمُ يا أهل موصل إنكّم

    نلتم من الرحمن خير جزاء

    I bring you glad tidings, O people of Mosul, that you

    Have received the best reward from the Most Merciful

  3. من حَيَّ منكم في الغَزَاة نصيبه

    ونصيب من قد مات في الشهداء

    Those among you who survived the battles got their share

    As did those who died as martyrs

  4. جاهدتُمُ في الله حقّ جهاده

    وصبرتُمُ لحوادث الأنواء

    You strived in the way of God as Jihad requires

    And you were patient in the face of calamities

  5. ودفعتم عن بيضكم بل سُمرِكم

    بالبيض بل بالسَّمرة الصعداء

    You defended your homes, indeed your honor

    With your lives, indeed with your most precious possession

  6. وحَميتُمُ العرض المصون من الأذى

    حيث التزمتم شيمة الآباء

    And you protected the inviolable honor

    As you upheld the ways of your forefathers

  7. تاللَه إنّكم فوارس كهمسٍ

    تاللَه أنتم عُدَّة الهيجاء

    By God, you are horsemen like lions

    By God, you are the equipment of warriors

  8. لله درّكم ودرّ رئيسكم

    ملكٍ تولّى قُنَّة العلياءِ

    May God bless you and your leader

    The king who assumed leadership of the sublime

  9. بَطَل إذا حَمِيَ الوطيسُ رأيته

    وَرَدَ الدماءَ مكان ورد الماء

    A hero, when the battle was enflamed you would see him

    Driving back the blood just as water flows

  10. قَرم إذا أغبرّ السماء بمهمهٍ

    قد ألبسَ الغبراء ثوب دماء

    A warrior, when the sky thundered with his threats

    He dressed the dusty ground in blood

  11. شاكي السلاح مُقذَّف فكأنه

    ليث الشرى يسطو على الأعداء

    Brandishing his sword he seemed

    Like a ferocious lion pouncing on the enemy

  12. يا صاح إن هزّ القنا لعداتهِ

    تلقاهم سجدوا على الغبراء

    Oh you who roar, when he shook his spear at them

    You would find them bowing down on the dusty ground

  13. يا كم له نظمٌ ونثرٌ فيهم

    فهمُ إذن منه بكلّ عناء

    Oh how many prose and poetry he has composed about them

    And so they must be tired of him in every way

  14. لا يرعوي عنهم لحتف نفوسهم

    حتى تغيض بقاعة الوعساء

    He does not care about their lives to the point of death

    Until the plain of Al-Wisaa is flooded

  15. عرَبيُّ أصل فاتكٌ ذو نجدة

    ذو شيمة محمودة وسخاء

    An Arab of noble origin, generous

    Of praiseworthy character and generosity

  16. من كفّه الحتف المبين لدى الوغى

    وبكفّه الإحياءُ عند عطاء

    From his hands comes clear death in times of strife

    And from his hands comes life when giving

  17. تاللَه قد ضنَّ الزمان بمثله

    إذ جاء بالصفراء والبيضاء

    By God, time has been stingy in offering the likes of him

    Since he came in yellow and white

  18. لا عيب فيه غير انَّ نقوده

    مقبوضة بأنامل الفقراء

    He has no fault other than his money

    Is held in the hands of the poor

  19. تُلفى دنانير الصّلات بكفّه

    من حزنها في حُلَّةٍ صفراء

    Coins of prayers are wrapped in his palms

    In sorrow, dressed in yellow

  20. ما حاتم الطائيُّ عند عطائه

    إلاّ كقطر وهو كلّ الماء

    Hatem al-Ta'i in his generosity

    Was but a drop while he is an entire sea

  21. ليثٌ لأعباء الوزارة حامل

    فلقد سَما قدراً على الجوزاء

    A lion bearing the burdens of leadership

    For he has attained the highest rank

  22. قد جاد في حفظ النساء بجدّه

    وبحفظ أطفال وحفظ إماء

    He has been generous in protecting women with his sacrifice

    And in protecting children and female slaves

  23. لولاه ما طَوب الحُدَيبا نافع

    كلا كذاك قنابر الحدباء

    Were it not for him, Al-Hudaybiya would not have benefitted

    Neither would the fortresses of the hunchback

  24. إن لم يكن نار البنادق لم تكن

    تحمي الديار صيالةَ الأعداء

    Had it not been for the firing of guns, the homes

    Would not have been protected from the jaws of the enemy

  25. لولاه كانت ف يالوحوش قبوركم

    ونساؤكم يُدعُونَ بالأُسراءِ

    Had it not been for him, your graves would have been

    In the bellies of beasts, and your women taken captive

  26. لولاه كاد الدين يُمحى ربُعه

    وتزول عنكم نسبة الغرّاء

    Had it not been for him, a quarter of the religion would have perished

    And you would have lost the title of excellence

  27. لولاه ما ذكر الصحابة شائع

    في حيّكم إلاّ على استهزاء

    Had it not been for him, the name of the Noble Companions

    Would not have spread in your quarters except in mockery

  28. أأبا مرادٍ قد مدحتك حِسبةً

    من غير ما ميلٍ إلى إعطاءِ

    O Abu Murad, I have praised you out of duty

    Not out of any desire for reward

  29. أأبا مرادٍ ان جهلت حقيقتي

    فاعلم بأنّي شاعر الزوراء

    O Abu Murad, if you do not know me,

    Know that I am the poet of Az-Zawra

  30. خذها فريدة عصرها من خدرها

    بكر المعاني لم تزل بخباء

    Take this poem, unique in its era, from its planter

    The first of meanings, never revealed before

  31. يا راكب الوجناء يمّم مَوصِلاً

    وانزل بها يا راكب الوجناء

    O rider of the camel, head for Mosul

    And dismount in it, O rider of the camel

  32. واقرأ السلامَ على الأُلى قد جاهدوا

    في اللَه لا عن سمعةٍ ورياء

    Convey greetings to the forefathers who strove

    In the way of God, not for fame or ostentation

  33. وقل ابن عبد اللَه ودلو أنه

    معكم بتلك الوقعة الدهماء

    And say Ibn Abdullah and his bucket that he

    Is with you in that fateful battle

  34. ولكم بأحمد أسوة محمودة

    أكرم بها من أسوة حسناء

    And in Ahmad you have a splendid model

    More honorable than any beautiful model

  35. في غزوة الأحزاب غزوة خندق

    حيث العدو أحاط بالأحياء

    In the Ghazwa of Al-Ahzab, the battle of the Trench

    Where the enemy surrounded the living

  36. قَصَدَت أعاديكم بلوغ مُرادهم

    منكم بأن يرموكم بدهاءِ

    Your enemies intended to achieve their purpose against you

    By cunningly attacking you

  37. رفعوا قنابرهم لخفض نسوركم

    لكنّها نصبت على الأغراء

    They set up their fortresses to bring down your eagles

    But those were set up on barren ground

  38. بقروا بأرضكم اللقومَ لضيركم

    رَجَعت إليهم نارها بِرَداءِ

    They dug trenches in your land to spite you

    Their fires returned to them in a cloak

  39. أودت بهم كسيوفكم إذ جُرِّدت

    حين ارمعلّوا نحوكم لبلاء

    Your swords, when unsheathed, destroyed them

    As they arrogantly marched against you for affliction

  40. فقريتم طير الفلاة ووحشها

    فعليكم منها عميم ثناءِ

    You fed the birds and beasts of the wilderness

    So for that you deserve fulsome praise

  41. أنجبتمُ يا قوم حيث جعلتم

    جوف الوحوش مقابر اللؤماء

    You have sired, O people, by making

    The bellies of beasts the graves of villains

  42. اللَه أعلم كان هذا منكم

    قصداً لأجل طهارة الصحراء

    God knows best, this was your intention

    To purify the desert area

  43. لم يتّفق في الكون مثل ثباتكم

    حيث الرؤوس تُبَثُّ في البيداء

    None in existence can match your steadfastness

    As heads are scattered in the desert

  44. ولكم ببدرٍ أسوة بشراكمُ

    عنكم أزُيلت جملة الأسواء

    And in Badr you have a model that brings you glad tidings

    All kinds of evil have been driven away from you

  45. تبّاً لكركوكٍ وتبّت أهلها

    جلبوا لأنفسهم جميع إساءِ

    Damn Kirkuk and damn its people

    Who brought upon themselves every evil

  46. إذ لم يحاموا عن عيالٍ ساعةً

    مع أن حصنهم لخيرُ بِناءِ

    When they did not defend their families for an instant

    Despite their fortress being most well-built

  47. يا أهل موصل فاخروا من شئتم

    فلأنتم أحرى بكل علاء

    O people of Mosul, boast over whoever you wish

    For you are most deserving of every elevation

  48. لا زلتم بسعادة أبدية

    يا أهل تلك الموصل الحدباء

    You remain in eternal happiness

    O people of Mosul the hunchbacked
