1. يا سميري قم بالعشيرة نادِ

    معلناً بالمصاب في كل نادِ

    O Samiri, go around the tribe and announce

    The calamity in every club

  2. وامضي نحو العراق وانشد وحرّض

    بالقوافي من كان في بغداد

    And head towards Iraq, chant and provoke

    In rhymes those who are in Baghdad

  3. أوضح الحال منشداً عن لساني

    غير مخفيه خشيةَ الأنكاد

    Explain the situation chanting on my behalf

    Not hiding in fear of reprisal

  4. مَن لِهَمٍّ مُجَمَّعٍ في الفؤاد

    لي منه مفرِّق ألف وادي

    Whoever has accumulated sorrow in his heart

    I have from it scattered a thousand valleys

  5. فجأتنا كتائب الفرس صبحاً

    وأتتنا ما بين عاوٍ وعادي

    The Persian troops suddenly attacked us at dawn

    And came between Aw and Adi

  6. قصَدَتنا من السويب عبوراً

    فملا سيلها بطون البوادي

    They headed towards us from Al-Suwaib crossing

    So their torrents filled the valleys

  7. قصَدوا البصرة التي عصم ال

    ه حماها من عهد هودٍ وعاد

    They headed to Al-Basra, which God protects

    He protected it since the time of Hud and Aad

  8. فأحطوا بها وقد منعتهم

    دونها عُصبةُ الهدى والرشاد

    So they besieged it, but a group of guidance and righteousness

    Prevented them from reaching it

  9. عصبةٌ أخلصوا الضمائر في الل

    ه فقاموا بنصره في جهاد

    A group who were sincere to God in their hearts

    So they stood for His victory in jihad

  10. غير ما إنهم كأصحاب بدرٍ

    عدداً والعدوّ مثل الجراد

    Unlike the people of Badr in number

    While the enemy was like locusts

  11. فلذا حوصر ولم تكن الفُر

    صةُ أن يلتقوهم في طِراد

    So it was besieged and there was no opportunity

    For them to meet them in expulsion

  12. ثبتوا في الحصار حولاً كميلاً

    يُترجَّون بعثةَ الإمداد

    They stood firm in the siege for months

    Awaiting the dispatch of supplies

  13. وهم كل ساعةٍ في قتالٍ

    مع أعداء دينهم وجلاد

    And every hour they were in battle

    With the enemies of their religion and torturers

  14. فبدا الجوع وهو قد صار فيهم

    خير عونٍ لما بدا للأعادي

    Then hunger appeared and it became among them

    A great ally against the enemies

  15. ففدوا منه مخبتين حيارى

    كالسكارى في الحال بل كالجماد

    So they were ransomed while perplexed

    Like drunkards, or even like inanimate objects

  16. فاستشاروا مجرّبي الحرب منهم

    فأشاروا بطاعة وانقياد

    So they consulted the war veterans among them

    Who advised obedience and surrender

  17. لرئيس الاعداء إن عف عن أعرا

    ضهم دون طارفٍ وتلاد

    To the leader of the enemies if he pardoned their land without annexation

    So they obeyed and surrendered, becoming in the morning

  18. فأطاعوا وسلّموا فغدَوا مث

    ل أسودٍ قد قُيّدت بقياد

    Like black lions, shackled and chained

    I wish I was among them, I would have had

  19. ليتني كنت فيهم كان عندي

    غير ذي الرأي رأي أهل السداد

    An opinion unlike the people of righteousness

    Before starvation undermined their resolve

  20. قبل أن تهدم المجاعة حزماً

    شاده العزم محكماً بشياد

    Fortified by determination with martyrdom

    And many enemies are like a few

  21. وكثير الأعداء مثل قليلٍ

    إنما النصر في حراب الصعاد

    Victory lies in the swords of the hills

    Victory lies in the youth of Mashrafiyat

  22. إنما النصر في شبا المشرفيّا

    تِ وزُرقٍ من النصال حِداد

    And the blue blades of swords

    And men who face the ferocity of battles

  23. ورجال تلقاهم لجّة الهيجاء

    فوق النسور كالأطواد

    Above eagles like pillars

    But God has destined, so they became

  24. لكن اللَه حيث قدّر أمسوا

    لم يكن غير ما قضى بمراد

    Nothing but what He willed
