والنائِباتُ أبا علِيٍّ
ليسَ تَتركُني وذاكا
The stars, O Abū ‘Alī
Do not cease to reproach me thus,
فكَأنَّها مُستَحلَفاتٌ
أن تكلِّفَني كَذاكا
As though they had sworn
To burden me forevermore.
علِمَت بِأنِّي لستُ مُن
بَسِطاً إِلى أَحدٍ سِواكا
They know I belong to none
Save you alone in all the world,
وَرأتكَ تَشكُو غِلظَةً
قصَرَت يَمينكَ عَن نَداكا
And saw you complaining of cruelty—
Your right hand falls short of your gifts.
فَرَمَتكَ بي حتَّى اشتَرَك
نا في مَذَمَّتِها اشتِراكا
So they pelt you with me that we share,
In their blame, a common fate.
