1. Yet Fate will not countenance

    finishing off a wounded man.

  2. In my anguish at

    its blows, I made my soul the price of release.

  3. Until I came to believe

    I lay prostrate in my grave,

  4. then Fate relented, revealing a savior

    through the hands of ʿAbd al-Masīḥ.

  5. So I shall surely divide my thanks

    between the lavish giver and the favored recipient.

  6. Were you among us, you could not tell the

    petitioner from the benefactor.

  7. Even in my present ailing state,

    I am a man whose friendship remains sound and true.
