أصبَحتُ والنائباتُ بعد على
حالَتِها في الطريقِ مُتَّصلَه
I have become—after high estate, with calamities
unbroken in their course along my road—
أعرى مِن الأنفِ لا لثامَ لَه
وكنتُ قِدماً أكسى من البَصَلَه
barer than a nose with no veil upon it,
though once I was better clothed than an onion.
