مازالَ يَنحَلُني أبو الجَيشِ اسمَهُ
فِيما يُجدِّدُ كلَّ يَومٍ جُودا
Abu al-Jaysh has never ceased bestowing his name on me
Still does the father of the army’s name dissolve me
as each day he renews his generosity,
As he renews his generosity each day
حتَّى غَدوتُ أنا المُسمَّى حامِداً
وغَدا يُسمَّى حامِداً مَحمُودا
until I became the one called Ḥāmid—the praiser—
Until I have become the one called praising
while he, called Ḥāmid, became Maḥmūd—the praised.
And he has become the praised, blessed one
