ولمَّا سَألتُ الزَّمانَ الأما

نَ ولم يَكُ يقبلُ مُستَأمِنا

When I implored Time for respite in sorrow,

He would not deign to shelter a suppliant.

وطالَ اشتغالُكَ عن نَجدَتي

أتيتُكَ في العزِّ مُستَأذِنا

And as your indifference was prolonged,

To your dignity was my plea addressing.
