1. ومُعتَذرِ العِذار إلى فُؤادي

    لجرمٍ سابقٍ من مُقلَتَيهِ

    The one who apologizes for his misdeeds to my heart

    For an earlier sin from his two eyelids

  2. وكَم أعرَضتُ عَنه فأعرضَت بي

    عن الإعراضِ خُضرةُ عارِضَيهِ

    And how often have I turned away from him, yet the greenness of his tender cheeks

    Turned away from my turning away from him

  3. ولَمَّا قُلتُ إنَّ الشعر يَسعَى

    لقَلبي في الخَلاصِ سَعَى عَليهِ

    And when I said poetry seeks

    My heart for deliverance, he sought it for me
