May rain bless the place where we stood one evening in the sanctuary,
The trysting place on the sultry eve
Lamenting love, while our glances were our speech.
where we complain of love while whispering gazes,
And when my reproachers could no longer make sense of our affair,
and my companions when our plight is one,
They slumbered from sorrow, though they were awake.
retire to sleep though wakeful.
It was as though, in our subtlety, we were the intended meaning,
As though we are pure spirit in meaning,
And they, amid our silence, were the words.
and they, in our silence, but empty words.
