أَشكو إِليكَ وإِن تَبَي
يَنَ يا ابنَ إبراهيمَ ضيقُك
I bring my complaint to you, though it is
I complain to you, though it will not avail,
clear, O son of Ibrahim, that you are hard-pressed.
O son of Abraham, your harshness,
إنِّي بِحالٍ لا يَسُر
رُكَ أَن يكونَ بِها صَديقُك
I am in a plight that would not please—
For I am in a state that does not please
you, were your friend to be in it.
That your friend should be in it.
