How many a preacher of patience has never known anguish,
How many who order patience have not known distress,
nor what the fire of sorrow has wrought within my vitals.
And what has the fire of grief done within my entrails,
Whence could patience come to me, when at every hour
Whence can I have patience when in every hour
I see my good deeds in my enemies’ scales?
I see my virtues in the scales of my enemies.
