قَلبي مَع الحَيَوانِ لا

سِيَما مِن الأَضحَى شَفيقُ

My heart is with the animals, especially the sacrificial ones

I do not shed blood, and I cannot bear to see blood shed

أَنا لا أُريقُ دَماً ولَس

تُ أُطيقُ أبصرُ من يُريقُ

Lettuce, leeks, artichokes and radishes

And water is the best drink I’ve had, not aged wine

اللِّفتُ والكُرَّاث والقُن

نَبيطُ والجَزَرُ الصَّليقُ

I have patience for abstinence, as the righteous ones were patient

I wake up no longer spirited, overwhelmed with worries when I wake

وَالماءُ أَطيَبُ ما شَرِب

تُ عَلَيهِ لا الخَمرُ العَتيقُ

Two drunkards are different until there is no path between them

This one burns hearts, while for the other it is heavenly nectar

حالٌ صَبرتُ عَلى القُنو

عِ بِهِ كَما صَبرَ الصَّديقُ

أَصبَحتُ لَستُ أفيقُ مِن

هَمٍّ وأصبحَ لا يُفيقُ

سكرانِ مُختَلفانِ حَت

تَى لَيسَ بَينَهما طَريقُ

هَذا حَريقٌ في القُلو

بِ وذا لِشارِبِهِ رَحيقُ
