فازدادَ في إِسرافِهِ

I reproached him for his haughty disdain,

I reproached him for his straying,

But he grew still more extravagant in it.

but he only increased his waywardness.

ويَرى خِلافي عامِداً

ويَرى خِلافي عامِداً

فهَجَرتُه لخِلافِهِ

فهَجَرتُه لخِلافِهِ

And, deliberately, he chooses to defy me;

He sees my differing as intentional,

So I abandoned him for his defiance.

so I shunned him for our differences.

ورَأيتُ عطفَةَ صُدغِهِ

ورَأيتُ عطفَةَ صُدغِهِ

فرَجعتُ في استِعطافِهِ

فرَجعتُ في استِعطافِهِ

But then I saw the curve of his temple-lock,

But I saw tenderness in his cheek,

And returned to seeking his favor.

and so I returned, entreating his forgiveness.
