كذبَت مُقلَتي فلِم صَدَّقوها

شهدَت في الهَوى شهادَةَ زُورِ

My eyes have lied, so why did you believe them?

They bore false witness of love's sorrow.

لا تَظُنُّوا دموعَها رُسلَ حُزنٍ

قد تكونُ الدُّموعُ رُسلَ السرورِ

Think not their tears are messengers of sadness -

Tears can be messengers of joy as well.
