أبلِغ أَبا العبَّاس أحدُوثَةً

ثَناؤها يعبقُ من عِرضِهِ

اليوم عوَّلتُ على أنَّني

أصرفُ بعضَ العيد في بَعضِهِ

أبيعُ ما ألبسُ فيه بِما

أنفِقُ والدلال في عرضِهِ

I sell what I wear in it for what

I spend while the broker takes his fee

وذاكَ رأيٌ حينَ أبرَمتُه

جِئتُكَ أستَفتيكَ في نَقضِهِ

And that is a plan when I initiated it

فما تَرى فيه وأنتَ امرُؤٌ

من خُلفاءِ الجودِ في أرضِهِ
