بَذلتُ له نَفسي وما كنتُ كالَّذي
يَعضُّ على التَّفريطِ فيه يدَيهِ
I gave myself to him though I was not like one
Who bites his hands in remorse for having let go,
وحبلُ وصالٍ بَيننا بِتُّ آخِذاً
على رَغم حُسَّادي به طَرفَيهِ
And the cord of love between us I went on grasping
Despite my enviers, with both its ends.
