1. لقدْ خَفَقَتْ في النَّحر ألويةُ النَّصْرِ

    وكانَ انمحاقُ الشَّرِّ في ذلك النَّحر

    The flags of victory fluttered in the throat,

    And the defeat of evil was in that throat,

  2. وفتحٌ عظيمٌ يعلمُ اللهُ أنَّه

    ليستصغر الأَخطار من نوب الدهر

    And a great conquest that God knows

    That the hazards of fate's times do not diminish

  3. عَلَتْ كلماتُ الله وهيَ عليَّةٌ

    بحدِّ العوالي والمهنَّدة البُتْر

    The words of God ascended, and they are supreme,

    With the height of glories and the drawn sword.

  4. تبلَّج دينُ الله بعدَ تَقَطُّبِ

    ولاحت أسارير العناية والبشر

    God's religion shone after gloom,

    And the lanterns of providence and good tidings appeared.

  5. محا البغيَ صمصام الوزير كما محا

    دُجى الليل في أضوائه مطلع الفجر

    It erased the injustice of the minister as it erased

    The darkness of night in the dawn lights.

  6. وكرّ البلا في كربلاء فأَصْبَحَتْ

    مواقف للبلوى ووقفاً على الضّرّ

    And misfortune turned in Karbala`, so it became

    Stands for afflictions and a stand for harm.

  7. غداة أبادَتْ مفسدي أهلِ كربلا

    وكرَّت مواضيه بهما أيَّما كَرِّ

    The morning after the corrupters of Karbala’s people perished

    And its meadows were filled with them, what a perishment.

  8. فدانت وما دانت لمن كانَ قبله

    من الوُزَراء السَّابقين إلى الفخر

    So it bowed, and it did not bow to anyone before him

    Of the ministers preceding to pride.

  9. وما أدركوا منها مراماً ولا مُنًى

    ولا ظفِروا منها بلبٍّ ولا قشر

    And they did not achieve any purpose or destination from it

    Nor did they gain from it any kernel or peel.

  10. وحذَّرهم من قبل ذلك بطشه

    وأَمْهَلَهُمْ شهراً وزادَ على الشهر

    And he warned them before that of his tyranny

    And gave them a month and more than a month.

  11. وعامَلَهم هذا الوزيرُ بعدله

    وحاشاه من ظلمٍ وحاشاه من جور

    And this minister treated them with his justice

    And far be it from injustice and far be it from tyranny.

  12. وأنذرهم بطشاً شديداً وسطوةً

    وبالغ بالرُّسْلِ الكرام وبالنّذر

    And he warned them of severe torture and dominance

    And was thorough with the honorable messengers and warnings.

  13. ولو يصبر القرم الوزير عليهم

    لقيل به عجز وما قيل عن صبر

    And if the brave minister had patience with them

    It would be said he was helpless, and nothing was said about patience

  14. وصالَ عليهم عند ذلك صولةً

    ولا صولةَ الضرغام بالبيض والسمر

    And he attacked them at that time with an assault

    Not even the assault of warriors with the white and the brown.

  15. وسار بجيش والخميس عرمرم

    فكالليل إذ يسري وكالسيل إذ يجري

    And he marched with an army on Thursday raging

    As the night travels and as the floods flow

  16. وقد أفسدوا شرَّ الفساد بأرضهم

    إلى أن أتاهم منه بالفتكة البكر

    They had corrupted the land with the worst corruption

    Until he came to them with the first massacre

  17. رمتهم بشهب الموت منه مدافعٌ

    لها شررٌ في ظلمة الليل كالقصر

    Cannons threw them the darts of death from him

    With sparks in the dark night like a palace

  18. رأوا هول يوم الحشر في موقف الردى

    وهل تنكر الأَهوال في موقف الحشر

    They saw the horror of the Day of Resurrection in the position of perdition

    And does one deny horrors in the position of Resurrection?

  19. فدمَّرهم تدمير عادٍ لبَغْيهم

    بصاعقةٍ لم تُبْقِ للقوم من ذكر

    So he destroyed them, the destruction of Aad, for their transgression

    With a thunderbolt that left no mention of the people

  20. ألم ترهم صرعى كأَنَّ دماءهم

    تسيل كما سالت معتقة الخمر

    Did you not see them fallen as if their blood

    Flowed as the drunkard’s wine flows?

  21. وكم فئةٍ قد خامر البغيُ قلبَها

    على أنَّها بأحبولة الحصر

    And how many a group that transgression dwelt in their hearts

    Thinking they are with impregnability

  22. فراحت بها الأَجساد وهي طريحةٌ

    تداس على ذنبٍ جنَتْه لدى الوزر

    So the bodies went away and they were lying down

    Stepped upon for a sin they committed at the minister

  23. فإنَّ مرادَ جارٍ على الورى

    ولا بدَّ أنْ يجرى ولا بدَّ أن يجري

    For the purpose of an aggressor in the world

    Must take place and must occur

  24. تجول المنايا بينهم بجنودها

    بحيث مجال الحرب أضيق من شبر

    Deaths roamed among them with their armies

    Where the space of war is narrower than a span

  25. تَلاطَمَ فيها الموجُ والموجُ من دمٍ

    تَلاطُمَ مَوجِ البحر في لُجَّة البَحر

    The wave and the wave from blood surged in it

    Like the surging of the sea wave in the sea abyss

  26. فلاذوا بقبر ابن النبيّ محمد

    فهل سُرَّ في تدميرهم صاحب القبر

    So they sought refuge in the grave of the son of the Prophet Muhammad

    Did the owner of the grave rejoice in their destruction?

  27. فإن تُركوا لا يترك السيف قتلَهم

    وإن ظَهَروا باؤوا بقاصمة الظهر

    For if they were left, the sword would not stop killing them

    And if they appeared, they would come with a back-breaking one

  28. ولا برحت أيَّامه الغرُّ غُرَّةً

    تضيءُ ضياءَ الشمس في طلعة الظهر

    And its days continued brightly glowing

    Lighting the light of the sun at zenith

  29. ولا زال في عيدٍ جديد مؤرِّخاً

    فقد جاءَ يوم العيد بالفتح والنصر

    And it remained in a new holiday chronicled

    For the day of Eid came with victory and triumph
