You hurled Shihab al-Din, in the light of his discernment,
against the demons of dark cares that whisper in my breast.
Ah, what a gallant man! When his hand came forth,
I knew him for certain—like life-giving rain he pours, like falling drops.
His generosity attests to the generosity of Ibn Ghannam;
oh, marvel at a sea that pointed the way to the sea—
to him who shows us death, obedient to his right hand,
and from whose keen sword we read the verse of victory;
who delivers whoever befriends him from whatever would cause him harm,
as Islam delivers one from the darkness of unbelief.
May you both endure, O twin luminaries of glory’s horizon,
a refuge for all who hope, until the end of time.
