1. يا ناجياً نَحوَ كلِّ مَكْرُمَةٍ

    يَبْلُغُ فيها أعاليَ الرُّتَبِ

    O my savior striving for every glory,

    Reaching the highest ranks,

  2. وطالباً بالكمال ما عَجزَتْ

    فحولُ قومٍ عن ذلك الطلبِ

    Seeking perfection that even the best men failed in attaining,

    With thoughts piercing as arrows,

  3. ومِن سهام الآراء فكرتُه

    إنْ يرْمِ فيها أغراضَه يُصِبِ

    That strike their targets if he shoots them,

    The book you looked into,

  4. إنَّ الكتاب الَّذي نظرتَ به

    أبلَغُ ما ألَّفوه في الكتب

    Is the most eloquent ever composed in books,

    If you ponder its subtleties,

  5. فلو تأمَّلتَ في دقائقه

    لقلْتَ هذا من أعجب العجب

    You'll say this is the most wondrous of wonders,

    When they utter the word “book”,

  6. إنْ أطلقوا لفظة الكتاب فما

    يشارُ إلاَّ إليه في الكتب

    None but it is meant in books,

    Others bring me no benefit,

  7. وغيره لا يُفيدُني أرباً

    وأينَ كتبُ النحاة من أربي

    Where are the books of grammarians from Rabee!

    For this Imam is the most knowing of people created by God in Arabic syntax,

  8. لأنَّ هذا الإِمام أعلمُ خل

    ق الله في نحو منطقِ العرب

    He has always been their reference,

    Like the pole to the cycles of knowledge,

  9. ولم يزل وهو مرجعُهم

    لدائرات العلوم كالقطب

    Enviers attacked him out of envy,

    And overcame him with lies and falsehood,

  10. قد ناظرتْه الحسَّاد من حَسَدٍ

    فغالَبَتْه بالزُّور والكذب

    He went around hiding his grief,

    At their concealing his virtues in flames,

  11. وراحَ يطوي الأَحشاءَ من أسفٍ

    لكتمِهِم فضلَه على لهب

    And he reached the end dying expatriated,

    In the land of Shiraz, the profession of literature,

  12. وأدركتْه فمات مغترباً

    بأرض شيرازَ حرفةُ الأَدب

    If you are a lover of what his pages contained of gems,

    I can dictate it if you want a copy,

  13. فإنْ تكنْ أنت عاشقه

    لما حوى طيُّه من النخب

    I do not care about the intensity of fatigue,

    My dictation is not out of greed,

  14. نقلتُه إن أردتَ نُسخَتَه

    ولا أُبالي بشدَّة التعب

    For hoped for money or ambition,

    Your hands preceded me,

  15. وليس نقلي له على طمعٍ

    ولا لمالٍ يرجى ولا نشب

    Long ago in generosity,

    My tongue is heavy,

  16. إنَّ أياديك منك سابقة

    عَليَّ قدماً في سالف الحقب

    That's my biggest flaw,

    If you undertake to treat me,

  17. هو لساني يعوقُهُ ثِقَلٌ

    وذاكَ عندي من أعظم النوب

    You will gain reward for that cause,

    I have no profession but literature,

  18. فلو تسَبَّبْتَ في معالجتي

    لنلتَ أجراً بذلك السَّبب

    Prose, poetry, and sermons,

    After David I have no deprivation of wishes,

  19. وليسَ لي حرفةٌ سوى أدبٍ

    جَمٍّ ونظم القريض والخطب

    The era of literature has passed.

  20. من بعد داوود لا حُرِمتُ مُنًى

    فَقَدْ مَضَتْ دولةُ الأَدب
