1. مَنْ معيدٌ لي مِنْ عَهد الأُلى

    زَمَناً فيه حَلا ثم خَلا

    Who can bring back to me the days of joy

    When we were together, happy and gay

  2. ولياليَّ بجَمعٍ ومُنى

    هطلَ الغَيثُ لها وانهملا

    With nights of union and sweet delight

    The rain would pour as darkness took flight

  3. علّلاني يا خليليَّ بما

    مرَّ من أيام جَمْعٍ عَلّلا

    My friend, remind me of what has passed

    Of days of union that flew so fast

  4. وبما كانَ بأيام الصِّبا

    أينَ أيامك يا سعد الألى

    And of my youth, those moments so dear

    Where are those days, O joy sublime?

  5. خَفّفا عن دَنِفٍ حمْل الأسى

    فلقد أثْقله ما حملا

    Lighten this heavy burden of woe

    For sorrow weighs down my load

  6. كانَ لي صَبراً فلمَّا رحل ال

    ركبُ بالأحباب عني رحلا

    I had patience till friends went away

    To journey afar and leave me astray

  7. نزلوا بالشِّعب واختاروا على

    بُعْدِهم مني فؤادي منزلا

    They camped in the valley and chose to be

    Distant from me, my heart their abode

  8. وبنفسي من رَماني عامداً

    ما رَمَتْ عيناه إلاَّ قَتَلا

    With malice intent they stricken my soul

    Their eyes desired only my death knoll

  9. وتظَلَّمْتُ من الحبِّ إلى

    جائرٍ في حكمه ما عدلا

    I cried injustice from love so cruel

    Whose rule showed no mercy, just fate foul

  10. رميةٌ منك أصابت مقتلي

    هي من عينيك يا ريم الفلا

    Your glance was the strike that brought my doom

    That look from your eyes, O beauty's bloom

  11. فاتَّقِ الله بأحشاءِ شجٍ

    ما اتَّقى منك العيون النجلا

    So fear God and the wounds you impart

    Eyes so pure care not for the heart

  12. خضب العينين منه بدمٍ

    في خضاب اللَّيل حتَّى نصلا

    My eyes bloodied with tears in the night

    Till sunrise and darkness took flight

  13. ساهر لو عرض الغمض على

    جفنه طيب الكرى ما قَبلا

    Sleep shunned the wakeful eye of despair

    That found no comfort, just sadness there

  14. خلِّياني بعدَ سكَّان الغَضا

    أنْدُبُ الرّبع وأبكي الطللا

    Leave me to mourn the abodes laid bare

    I weep for the ruins as night turns to dawn

  15. يا لها من وقفة في أربُع

    أرخَصَتْ من أدمعي ما قد غلا

    Oh how I have wept at that fateful place

    My tears stronger than words can retrace

  16. حدَّثَ الواشين جَفني في الهوى

    عن دمِ الدمعِ حديثاً مرسلا

    My eyes disclosed to the spies of passion

    The blood tears they shed in profusion

  17. سِرُّ وجدانٍ بدا لي صَوْنُه

    باحَتِ العينَ به فابتُذِلا

    My innermost thoughts no more concealed

    When eyes let them out, secrets unsealed

  18. ولحاني صاحبٌ يحسَبُني

    أسمع النُّصحَ وأرضى العذّلا

    Those counseling patience believed in vain

    That I heeded advice, was cured of my pain

  19. جادَل العاذلُ حتَّى إنَّه

    كانَ لي أكثر شيء جَدَلا

    While arguing on, they knew not that I

    Was lost in love's grasp, could not comply

  20. لو رأى الحبَّ عَذولٌ لامني

    عَرَفَ العاذلُ ما قد جَهِلا

    If the critic saw love's tribulation

    He'd know the folly of his estimation

  21. يا خليليَّ إذا لم تَعْلَما

    ما أُقاسي من غرامٍ فاسألا

    My friend, if you knew not the affliction

    Of passions that raged past eviction

  22. إنَّما أحْبابُنا يوم النَّوى

    قطعوا في هجرهم ما وصلا

    When dear ones left us, word of joy ceased

    And parted in absence, bonds broken, unleashed

  23. نقل الواشي إليهم سَلْوَتي

    كَذِب الناقلُ فيما نقلا

    They carried my condition, reported false

    The messenger lied about my loss

  24. هل سألتم عن فؤادي إنَّه

    ما سلاكم في الهوى حتَّى انسلى

    Did you ask how my heart fared? Forlorn

    Forgotten by you, from its quest torn

  25. لستُ أنساكم بذكرى غيركم

    كيف أبغي بسواكم بدلا

    None can replace you within my heart

    Without you, what substitute can start?

  26. إنْ علا جَدُّ امرئٍ في جِدِّه

    فعليُّ الجَدّ بالجِدِّ علا

    When a man excels in his excellence

    He attains glory with diligence

  27. تَسبقُ الأقوالَ أفعالٌ له

    وإذا قال بشيء فعلا

    Noble words lead to actions ahead

    What he states he accomplishes stead

  28. سيّد لو أمرَ الدهر بما

    شاءَ من أمر المعالي امتثلا

    A lord, if destiny ruled as it may

    Would accomplish the noblest display

  29. وجد الدهر مزاياه حلىً

    فتحلّى منه في تلك الحلى

    He found destiny's gifts to put on

    Gleaming with glory, those gifts donned

  30. قرأ المجدُ على أخلاقه

    سورةَ الحمد قديماً وتلا

    Glory read in his virtues of old

    Surat Al-Hamd, blessed to behold

  31. وصعابٌ للمعالي لم تُقَدْ

    قادها من غير كرهٍ ذُلُلا

    Obstacles fell before his great name

    Without resistance or sense of shame

  32. طيّب الذات رفيعٌ قدرُه

    ما يريك النجم إلاَّ أسفلا

    Pure of soul, his status is high

    You'll not see a star in the sky

  33. سيّدٌ أشرَفُ من في هاشم

    شبَّ في حجر العلى واكتهلا

    A lord of loftiest Hashimite fame

    Who matured sheltered in domains

  34. من أناسٍ بلغوا غاياتهم

    من نوالٍ ونزالٍ وعُلى

    Of lords who attained the sublime

    Through ascent, descent and mountain climb

  35. سادةٍ قد أوْضحَ الله بهم

    لجميع العالمين السُبُلا

    Lords whom God showed clearly the way

    To guide all mankind night and day

  36. أنْزَل الله على جَدّهُمُ

    سيّدِ الرسل الكتابَ المنزَّلا

    God sent down to their ancestor

    The Book Divine, majestic tutor

  37. سادة لولا هداهم بَقيت

    هذه النَّاس جميعاً هملا

    Lords but for whom people would stray

    Wandering lost, with hearts led astray

  38. ما رأينا أحَداً من قبله

    لاح كالبدر هزبراً رجلا

    None like him came before into sight

    Shining bright like the full moon at night

  39. لاح للأبصار يبدو واضحاً

    وتجلّى وبه الكرب انجلى

    Radiantly he came into view

    Manifest, glorified anew

  40. وَضَحَ الصُّبح إذا الصُّبح أضا

    أو حسامٌ مشرفيّ صقلا

    Dawn lit up the sky at sun's sight

    His rise dispelled darkness like light

  41. أو يَخفى عن عيونٍ أبْصَرَتْ

    بوجود ابن ذكاء ابن جلا

    Can eyes that saw the keen minded son

    Of Juraij miss that brilliant sun?

  42. أنا من آلائه في نِعمةٍ

    بالغٌ في كلٍّ يوم أملا

    I'm blessed by gifts from his palm

    Daily my hopes are rendered calm

  43. ونوالٍ من يدٍ مبسوطة

    للعطايا أرْسَلَتْها مثلا

    Favor from his hand stretched out

    Models of giving, without a doubt

  44. إنَّما أيديه أيدي ديمَةٍ

    روَّضَتْ روضي إذا ما أمحلا

    His hands are hands of constant grace

    That nurtured my soul in loving embrace

  45. وصِلاتٍ من نَداه اتَّصَلَتْ

    لا عَدِمْنا منه ذاك المنهلا

    Connections came from his close call

    Never to lose that gift at all

  46. لا أبالي إن يكن لي مورداً

    مرَّ يا سعدُ زماني أم حلا

    I care not if at times there's a dearth

    Of fortune, O Saad, throughout my earth

  47. فجزاه الله عنَّا خير ما

    جوزيَ المنعمُ فيما نوّلا

    So may God reward him for us fully

    As he rewards the noble, kindly

  48. إنْ يَرُمْ فيه مقالاً شاعرٌ

    قال فيه شعره مرتجلا

    Should he speak poetry on a whim

    His eloquent verses would flow from him

  49. دامت الأيامُ أعياداً له

    وعليه السَّنْد وافى مقبلا

    May his days be blessed celebrations

    And glory be his determination
