1. لا تَلُمْ مُغْرَماً رآك فهاما

    كلُّ صبٍّ تَرَكْتَهُ مُستهاما

    Blame not a lover if he saw you enthralled,

    Every youth you left is smitten and entranced,

  2. لو رآك العذول يوماً بعيني

    تَرَكَ العذل في الهوى والملاما

    If the chaste saw you one day with their eyes,

    They would abandon chastity for love's dance.

  3. يا غلاماً نهاية الحُسن فيه

    ما رأت مثله العيون غلاما

    O youth, the epitome of beauty lies in you,

    Eyes have never seen the likes of you, O lad!

  4. تاركٌ في الأَحشاء ناراً وفي الأَج

    فان دَمْعاً وفي القلوب غراما

    Leaving fires in the hearts and tears in the eyes,

    And passion overwhelming souls to be had.

  5. أتراني أبلُّ فيك غليلاً

    أَمْ تراني أنال منك مراما

    Do you think I vent my anguish fruitlessly?

    Or do you think I seek to attain my wish?

  6. كلَّما قلت أَنْتَ برؤٌ لقلبي

    بَعَثَتْ لي منك العيون سقاما

    Whenever you say you're a cure for my heart,

    Your eyes send me a malady so afresh!

  7. وَبوحْيٍ من سِحْر عَينيك يوحي

    لفؤادي صبابة وغراما

    The whispers of your eyes' sorcery whisper

    To my heart infatuation and passion anew!

  8. عمرك الله هذي كبدي الحرَّى

    تشكَّت إلى لماك الأُواما

    May God give you long life, this my aching heart

    Complained of blazing embers, its woe to you.

  9. فاسقني من رحيق ريقك صِرفاً

    لا يريني كأس المدام مداما

    Give me to drink the pure wine of your saliva,

    Let not cups of wine give me pleasure or joy.

  10. حام خالٌ على زلالٍ برودٍ

    هو فيك فاصطلاها ضراما

    A cheek smooth as silk on a cool limpid stream,

    Scarred by pockmarks marring its tranquil employ.

  11. أَطْعَمَتْهُ في فيك أطماعُنا في

    ك فما نال بردَها والسَّلاما

    Our hopes fed on your cheek, but never got

    Its coolness or peace, it was waste, a destroyed dream!

  12. أَوَلَمْ تخشَ يا مليحُ من الله

    بقتلي من غير ذنبٍ أثاما

    O beautiful one, did you not fear Allah,

    By killing me, though I am void of sins or blame?

  13. فالأَمانَ الأَمانَ من سحر عينيك

    فقد جَرَّدْتَ علينا حساما

    Safety, safety from your eyes' sorcery!

    For against me you have unsheathed swords of flame.

  14. لستُ أَدري وقد تَثَنَّيْتُ تيهاً

    أَقَضيباً هَزَزْته أمْ قواما

    I know not, bewildered, swaying to and fro,

    Is it a tender branch or is it your frame?

  15. ما هَصَرنا إلاَّ قوامك غصناً

    ونظرنا إلاّكَ بدراً تماما

    Naught delighted my eyes but the sight of you,

    No pleasure found my love but you, untamed.

  16. لم تَدُمْ لذَّةٌ لعَيْني بمرآك

    فما للهوى بصَبِّكَ داما

    When your memory passes me one day,

    Yearning stays in my heart and takes acclaim.

  17. فإذا مَرَّ بي ادِّكارُك يوماً

    قَعَدَ الوَجْدُ بالفؤاد وقاما

    So spare me the like of your abandonment,

    I see not in living without you any gain.

  18. فأجرني من مثل هجرك إنِّي

    لا أرى العيش جفوةً وانصراما

    Rather I count the day you show disdain

    As an epoch, and your estrangement a bane!

  19. بل أَعدُّ اليوم الَّذي أَنْتَ تجفو

    فيه دهراً ويوم هجرك عاما

    Where is your gentleness on the meadows of furtiveness

    When I say you resemble the gentle gazelle?

  20. أينَ منك الآرام في مسرح السّرب

    إذا قلتُ تشبه الآراما

    O gazelle who grazes my heart's pasture,

    Not the coarse thorn-bushes and brambles of shame.

  21. يا غزالاً يرعى سويدا فؤادي

    لا الخزامى بحاجر والثماما

    Your glances' magic made mighty men succumb,

    And cured whoever languished from its spell.

  22. صَرَعَتْ مقلتاكَ بالسّحر أقوا

    ماً وداوَتْ من دائها أقواما

    How many a night have I passed sleepless,

    With the tears of a youth showering like hail!

  23. كم سَهِرْتُ الدُّجى بأعين صبٍّ

    أمطرت مزنها فكان ركاما

    I sought solace for my eyes with my eyes,

    But solace for me was seen as forbidden and curst.

  24. والتمستُ الكرى لطرفي بطرفي

    فرأيتُ الكرى عليَّ حراما

    O my dear ones, blame me not,

    For I cannot bear the blamer's rehearsal.

  25. يا خليليَّ خلِّياني من اللَّوم

    فإنِّي لا أسمع اللوَّاما

    Favor me with good tidings of Nejd,

    Describe its meadows and encampments to me.

  26. واتحفاني بطيب أخبار نجدٍ

    وصِفا لي ربوعها والخياما

    And mention to me of Iraq Shahab Al-Deen,

    Scattered in his praise and poem's scheme.

  27. واذكرا لي من العراق شهاب

    الدِّين نثراً في مدحه ونظاما

    For the mention of nobles revives the soul,

    Gladdening bodies and comforting spirits' dream.

  28. فبذكر الكرام تنتعش الرُّو

    ح انتعاشاً فتطربُ الأَجساما

    He dominated the lords of his time, by his command,

    So the righteous and virtuous all did esteem.

  29. سادَ سادات عَصْره ولأمرٍ

    فاخَر التِّبرُ والنّضارُ الرغاما

    He never ceased to champion knowledge and glory,

    And for science and guidance did redeem.

  30. لم يَزَلْ للعلاء والمجد أقسا

    ماً وللعلم والنّهى أقساما

    He ascended every pinnacle of pride,

    So his ascendance and loftiness did seem.

  31. فَعَلا في سماء كلّ فخارٍ

    فتعالى علاؤه وتسامى

    His ingenious intellect transcended knowledge,

    Unfathomable before him, without seam.

  32. خارق فكره من العلم ما لم

    يقبل الخرق قبلُ والالتئاما

    So I see all else as guides after him,

    Since his sciences we saw as flags and emblem.

  33. فأرى النَّاس ما سواه وهاداً

    مُذْ أرينا علومه الأَعلاما

    O Imam and protector of Muslims, by

    That Imam, so righteous and held in esteem.

  34. يا إماماً للمسلمين هُماماً

    بأبي ذلك الإِمام الهماما

    You are a mercy Allah blessed Muslims with,

    And all of Islam, like a fond father's dream.

  35. إنَّما أَنْتَ رحمةٌ رَحِم الله

    بها المسلمين والإِسلاما

    May Allah reveal through you the complexities

    Of knowledge's secrets, dispelling each scheme.

  36. يكشف الله فيك عن مشكلات ال

    علم سرًّا ويرفع الإِيهاما

    With discourse that heals hearts of ignorance,

    Curing the sick, invalid and weak.

  37. بكلامٍ يشفي الصدور من الجهل

    شفاءً ويبرئ الأسقما

    As if sciences are revealed in secret to your heart,

    In sleep and in wakefulness, as a beam.

  38. فكأنَّ العلومَ توحى إلى قَلبكَ

    في السرِّ يقظةً ومناما

    You almost see what is beyond perceiving,

    Knowledge inspired and infused in you as a stream.

  39. ولقد كِدْتَ أن ترى ما وراء الغَ

    يْبِ عُلوماً أُلهِمتَها إلهاما

    Exalted is the glory you encompass, unmatched,

    And the perfection you were granted, unseen!

  40. جلّ مجدٌ حَوَيْته أن يضاهى

    وكمال رُزِقْتَه أن يُراما

    You surpassed in what you attained most high,

    Above any station you occupied, it would seem.

  41. قَصُرَتْ دون ما بَلَغْتَ الأعالي

    عن محلٍّ حَللْتَه ومقاما

    They cannot reach its terrain as you climbed

    And dominated its summits, refusing to teem.

  42. لم ينالوا أخفافها وتسنَّمتَ

    برغم الأنوف منها السناما

    We saw you serious and in jest one day,

    Inspiring thoughts and minds, as in a dream.

  43. قد رأيناك يوم جدٍّ وهزلٍ

    قد نهرت الأفكار والأفهاما

    So we plucked flowers from gardens,

    And heard speech from the maidens, a precious theme.

  44. فاقتطفنا من الرياض وروداً

    وسمعنا من الدراري كلاما

    And inhaled the breeze of gentle words,

    Like the morning breeze, spreading fragrance as a team.

  45. وانتشقنا نسيم رقّةِ لفظ

    كنسيم الصَّبا ونشر الخزامى

    Evidence from you that clarifies the truth,

    Vanquishing all atheists in debate, it would seem.

  46. حججٌ منك توضح الحقَّ حتَّى

    أفْحَمتْ كلَّ ملحدٍ إفحاما

    You awakened folks after the ignorance of deep slumber,

    Who before were nothing but dormant and unseen.

  47. نبَّهَتْ بعد رقّة الجهل قوماً

    لم يكونوا من قبل إلاَّ نياما

    You erased the darkness of misguidance and blindness,

    As the light of day destroys the dark regime.

  48. مَحَقتْ ظلمة الضلالة والغيّ

    كما بمحق الضياءُ الظلاما

    The whiteness of your pen's ink prevents

    Your eloquent pens from preceding, it would seem.

  49. يمنع البيض خطّ أقلامك السم

    ر بلاغاً أن تسبق الأقلاما

    You lead them when pens set out,

    Unable to undertake as a brave team.

  50. أَنْتَ مقدامها إذا أصبح المق

    دام فيها لا يحسن الإقداما

    You are above being called generous,

    If we count you among the noble and esteemed.

  51. أَنْتَ أعلى من أن يقال كريمٌ

    إن عَدَدْنا من الأنام الكراما

    You inundate people with good, and the clouds' downpour

    Waters the dunes and the barren terrain.

  52. تغمرُ النَّاس بالجميل وصَوْبُ

    المزن يسقي البطاح والآكاما

    So if one day glories are listed,

    You would be its beginning and end, it is seen.

  53. فإذا عَدَّتِ الأماجد يوماً

    كنت بدءاً لها وكنتَ الختاما
