1. بارقٌ لاح فأبكاني ابتساما

    نبَّه الشَّوقُ من الصبِّ وناما

    A flash of lightning made me smile through tears

    Longing awakened me from sleep

  2. ولمن أشكو على برح الهوى

    كبداً حرَّى وقلباً مستهاما

    To whom can I complain of the agony of passion?

    A burning liver, a flaming heart

  3. ويح قلبٍ لَعِبَ الوجد به

    ورمته أعين الغيد سهاما

    Woe to a heart toyed with by ecstasy

    And pierced by the arrows of love

  4. دنف لولا تباريح الجوى

    وما شكا من صحَّة الوجد سقاما

    Were it not for the wounds of longing

    And not feeling well from the pain of passion

  5. ما بكى إلاَّ جرتْ أدمُعُه

    فوق خدَّيه سفوحاً وانسجاما

    It would not have wept, its tears flowing

    Down its cheeks in streams

  6. وبما يسفح من عبرته

    بلَّ كمّيه وما بلَّ أواما

    With what it sheds in sadness

    It washed me, though it did not wash completely

  7. ففؤادي والجوى في صبوتي

    لا يَمَلاَّن جدالاً وخصاما

    So my heart and love in my youth

    Will never cease to argue and quarrel

  8. ليتَ من قد حرموا طيب الكرى

    أذنوا يوماً لعيني أن تناما

    If only those who denied the sweet company

    Would listen one day to my eyes wanting to sleep

  9. مَنَعونا أن نراهم يقظة

    ما عليهم لو رأيناهم مناما

    They prevented us from seeing them awake

    What would be wrong if we saw them in a dream

  10. قَسَماً بالحبِّ واللّوم وإنْ

    كنتُ لا أسمع في الحبِّ ملاما

    By love, blame, though

    I do not hear blame in love

  11. والعيون البابليَّات الَّتي

    ما أحلَّت من دمي إلاَّ حراما

    By those mesmerizing eyes

    That declared my blood forbidden

  12. وفؤادٌ كلَّما قلت استفق

    يا فؤادي مرَّةً زادَ هياما

    And a heart that whenever I say "awaken, my heart"

    Becomes more inflamed

  13. إنَّ لي فيكم ومنكم لوعةً

    أنْحَلَتْ بل أوْهَنَتْ منِّي العظاما

    You have caused me such agony

    My bones have melted, rather crumbled

  14. وعليكم عبرتي مهراقة

    كلَّما ناوحت في الأَيك حماما

    My tears pouring over you

    Whenever I moan in the corners

  15. ومتى يذكرُكم لي ذاكرٌ

    قعدَ القلب لذكراكم وقاما

    And when one reminds me of you

    The heart sits remembering you and stands

  16. يا خليليَّ ومن لي أنْ أرى

    بعد ذلك الصَّدع للشَّمل التئاما

    Oh my friend, who can I see

    After that rift, to mend the bond

  17. أحسِب العامَ لديكم ساعةً

    وأرى بَعْدَكم السَّاعة عاما

    I count the year with you as an hour

    And without you, I see the hour as a year

  18. لم يدمْ عيشٌ لنا في ظلِّكم

    أيّ عيش قبله كانَ فداما

    The life we ​​lived under your shade was short

    What life before was it that lasted?

  19. حيث سالمنا على القرب النوى

    وأخذنا العهد منها والذماما

    When we bid farewell to the beloved land

    And took the covenant and pledge from it

  20. ورضعنا من أفاويق الطلا

    وكرهنا بعد عامين الفطاما

    And we suckled from cups of sweet wine

    Yet after two years, we hated weaning

  21. أترى أنَّ الهوى ذاك الهوى

    والندامى بعدنا تلك الندامى

    Do you think that love and those regrets

    Whenever the breeze blows, I say "O breeze

  22. كلَّما هبَّت صبا قلتُ لها

    بلِّغيهم يا صبا نجد السَّلاما

    Convey to them the greetings of Nejd"

    While within me is an unjust soul

  23. وبنفسي ظالمٌ لا يتَّقي

    حوبة المضنى ولا يخشى أثاما

    That does not fear the sin of agony

    He who is infatuated with it does not judge fairly

  24. ما قضى حقًّا لمفتون به

    ربَّما يقضي وما يقضي مراما

    Though he may judge, it is not what he wants

    If I was offered a drink, I would not find

  25. لو ترشَّفتُ لماه لم أجد

    في الحشا ناراً ولو هبَّت ضراما

    In gifts a fire, even if sparks flew

    And I would extinguish the burning agony of love

  26. ولأطفأت لظى نار الجوى

    ولعفت الماء عذباً والمداما

    And make the water fresh and sweet

    How difficult it was to pass by agitated

  27. شدَّ ما مرَّ جفاً مستعذب

    من عذابي فيه ما كانَ غراما

    From my torment in it, which was passion

    I would not be given the water of life to drink

  28. لا سُقيتنَّ الحيا من إِبلٍ

    تقطع البيد بطاحاً وآكاما

    From she-camels that traverse the desert sands

    Those precious hands cast them

  29. قذفتها بالنوى أيدي السّرى

    في مواميها عراقاً وشآما

    Among their waves, Iraq and Syria

    And the arrows of separation struck them

  30. ورمتها أسهم البين فمن

    مُهَجٍ تُرمى وعيسٍ تترامى

    From a loved one they are thrown, and from one parted, they are tossed

    And we have tested people in their states

  31. وقد بلونا النَّاس في أحوالها

    وعرفناهم كراماً ولئاما

    And recognized them as generous and vile

    And we drank them fresh pure wine

  32. وشربناهم نميراً سائغاً

    وزعافاً وأكلناهم طعاما

    And muddy, and we ate their food

    So it’s impossible to see an eye that saw

  33. فمحالٌ أن ترى عينٌ رأت

    كحسام الدِّين للدِّين حساما

    Swords of the faith, swords for the faith

    If you unsheathe against time a hand

  34. إنْ تجرِّده على الدهر يدٌ

    فَلَقَتْ من خطبه هاماً فهاما

    It meets necks and meets skulls

    Of God's swords, you do not see in its sharp edge

  35. من سيوف الله لا تبصر في

    حدِّه الماضي فلولاً وانثلاما

    Retreat or wear

    God deposited within it a gem

  36. جوهر أودَعَهُ الله به

    لم يكن يقبل في النَّاس انقساما

    That would not split among people

    I looked at it more beautifully

  37. نظرت عيناي منه أروعاً

    طيب العنصر والقرم الهماما

    Of goodly origin and determination resolute

    From generous nobles created

  38. من كرامٍ سادةٍ لم يُخلَقوا

    بين أشراف الورى إلاَّ كراما

    Among the elite of the world only as generous

    So gentle that your origin of gentleness

  39. رقَّ حتَّى خِلْتَه من رقَّة

    أرج الشِّيح وأنفاس الخزامى

    Is rarer than old wine and the breath of young women

    Or like the morning breeze blowing in a garden

  40. أو كما هبَّت صبا في روضةٍ

    تنبت الرند صباحاً والثماما

    Where basil grows in the morning and thyme

    Steadfast in his ideas

  41. ثابتُ الفكرة في آرائه

    يظهر الصّبح كما يخفي الظَّلاما

    Dawn appears as darkness disappears

    And when he straightens the crooked

  42. وإذا ما قوَّم المعوجّ في

    رأيه العالي من الأَمر استقاما

    In his lofty opinion, it is upright

    A day when white swords are unsheathed from their scabbards

  43. يوم تعرى البيض من أغمادها

    وبه يكسي الفريقين القتاما

    With them he clothes both fighters in darkness

    In a day as black as pitch darkness

  44. في نهارٍ مثل مسودّ الدُّجى

    تلبس الشَّمس من النَّقع لثاما

    The sun wears a black garment

    And when the club shines with him

  45. وإذا ما أشرق النَّادي به

    أشرق النَّادي به بدراً تماما

    The club shines with the full moon through him

    No resident of times past hosted a neighbor

  46. لم يضِمه من زمان طارق

    عزّ جاراً وجواراً أنْ يضاما

    Dearer than he hosted, so they embraced

    We found his covenant in his affection

  47. قد وَجدنا عهده في ودّه ال

    عروة الوثقى فقلنا لا انفصاما

    An unbreakable bond, so we said no separation

    He brought people together and so sufficed

  48. شمل النَّاس فأغنى بِرُّه

    وكذا البحر إذا البحر تطامى

    Just as the sea, when the sea surges

    By my father you are, O Majid

  49. بأبي أنتَ وأُمي ماجد

    في سماوات المعالي يتسامى

    Rising in the highest heavens

    He built excellence and elevated his worth

  50. شيّد الفضل وأعلى قدرهُ

    بعد أنْ أصبحَ أطلالاً رماما

    After becoming ruins and debris

    And his right hand sufficed us the replacement

  51. وكفت يمناهُ بالويلِ ندًى

    فكفتنا الغيث سقياً والغماما

    So it sufficed us rain and clouds

    A just ruler, most high of lineage

  52. حاكمٌ بالعدل علويُّ الثنا

    عن عليٍّ قام بالحكم مقاما

  53. إنَّما البصرة في أيَّامه

    أعجبت من سارَ عنها أو أقاما

  54. أفصحت عن أخرسٍ فيك له

    من قريض النثر نثراً ونظاما

    With prose of poetry, prose and composition

    The rhymes of poetry, precious pearls

  55. عربيَّات القوافي غررٌ

    نصبت قلة المجد خياما

    Which the few with glory made their tents

    A poet who loves your great deeds, and in

  56. شاعرٌ يهوى معاليك وفي

    كلِّ وادٍ من مديح فيك هاما

    Every valley of praise for you, he wandered

    O sword of the faith! O you

  57. يا حسام الدِّين يا هذا الَّذي

    أشكر اليوم أياديه الجساما

    Whose mighty hands I thank today

    So favor and accept all

  58. فتفضَّل وتقبَّل كلّ ما

    جمعت فيك من الحقِّ كلاما

    That I have gathered in you of words

    And goodly praise made sweet by you

  59. وثناء طيِّباً طابَ بكم

    ينعشُ الرُّوح افتتاحاً وختاما

    Which revives the soul at the start and end
