O caravan, stop for an hour,
Let me pay off a debt to a loved one in fever,
Whenever lightning flashed brightly,
I remembered the smile and the forehead.
When white hair appeared in my temples,
And what I didn't want happened,
I didn't obey passion,
Nor did I break its strong rope.
Do I complain about what my ribs concealed?
Was I among those who moaned loudly?
In passion, I found nothing but passion,
Except my tears helping my sorrow.
My friend, you're fortunate,
If you can't help, make it clear.
The leaves made me sleepless in their branches,
Repeating the warbling and tunes.
How it ignited sorrow in my heart,
And shed tears of lamentation!
How it humbled the arrogant enemy,
And inundated the refugee with kindness!
O how much a youth suffers
From the torment of his foolishness!
He left Mosul upon arrival
A ferocious lion leaving its den.
He's the noblest and highest in origin,
And the brightest of all people.
Whenever the winds of passion blew,
It composed its tune in different ways.
Good manners accustomed him
To firmness and tenderness.
In Zawra lives a glorious bold man,
We pick his blooming eyes.
Those are the people whose loins
Begot fathers and sons.
They crowned him at the top,
And gave him their precious pearls.
They showed their hidden spite,
Which was lurking in their chests.
May the Protector protect you from the enemy’s cunning,
And be an impregnable fortress protecting you.
God thwarted their suspicions,
Long had they the suspicions.
I seek refuge in the Most Merciful,
Who disgraced His cursed devil.
If days had a beautiful face,
It would belong to them, and the eyes.
They sealed off all good,
Even if time wronged the benefactors.
