1. أتذكر أطلالاً تعفَّتْ وأرسُما

    بذاتِ الفضا في الجزعِ مِنْ أَيمن الحمى

    I remember ruins worn by time

    With the same skyline, grieving, on the right side of the fever

  2. منازل أحباب بها نزلَ الهوى

    فلم يُبقِ إلاَّ مدنف القلب مغرما

    The abodes of loved ones where love descended

    Leaving none but a loving heart infatuated

  3. عرفنا الهوى من أين يأتي لأهله

    بها والغرام العامريّ من الدمى

    We knew where love comes to its people

    With it and enduring passion from sincerity

  4. لئنْ أصبحت تلك المنازل باللوى

    قصارى أمانيَّ الهوى فلطالما

    If those abodes have been afflicted with torment

    My greatest wishes of love have long

  5. وقفتُ عليها والهوى يستفزُّني

    فأرسلتُ فيها الدمع فذًّا وتوأما

    Stood over them while love provokes me

    So I let tears flow copiously like twins

  6. كأَنِّي على الجرعاء أوقفت عبرة

    جرت بربوعِ المالكيَّة عَنْدَما

    As if I paused with lamentation on sobbing women

    That flowed in the lands of Malikiyya when

  7. وما أسأر البين المشتُّ بقيَّةً

    من الدمعِ إلاَّ كانَ ممتزجاً دما

    No eye shedding tears unless mingled with blood

    So I beseech clouds for their sake

  8. فأصبحتُ أستسقي السحاب لأجلها

    وما بلّ وبل السحب من مثلها ظما

    And never did clouds rain like them, abundantly

    My two companions, love you don't know

  9. خليليَّ إنَّ الحبَّ ما تعرفانه

    خليليَّ لو شاهدتما لعلمتما

    My two companions, if you had seen you would have known

    Stand with me at the ruins of a demolished house

  10. قفا بي على رسم لميَّة دارس

    لكي تعلما من لوعَتي ما جهلتما

    So you may learn from my torment what you didn't know

    Even if my eyelids don't help me weep

  11. وإنْ لم تساعدني الجفونُ على البكا

    بآثار ميٍّ فاسعداني أنتما

    With the marks of rainwater, make me happy yourselves

    With your life, if you see me in dire need

  12. بعيشكما إنْ تبصراني برامة

    فلنْ تبصرا إلاَّ فؤاداً متيَّما

    You will only see an infatuated heart

    Of what saddened me in the darkness a lightning flashed

  13. وممَّا شجاني في الدجنة بارق

    بكيت له من لوعتي فتبسَّما

    I cried for it from torment, yet you smiled

    It crept feebly and the night like a laden branch

  14. سرى موهناً والليل كالفرع فاحم

    فقلتُ أهذا ثغر سعدى توهما

    I said, is this the mouth of Sa'd you imagined?

    And I showed the dark thicket like passion in love

  15. وأورى حشا الظلماء كالوجد في الحشا

    وكالقلب يا ظمياء لمَّا تضرَّما

    And like a heart, oh my thirst, when you clung

    A mouth whose nectar I thirsted for aroused me

  16. وشوَّقني ثغراً ظمئتُ لوردِه

    وهل أَشتكي إلاَّ إلى ورده الظما

    Could I complain but to its nectar and thirst-quencher?

    I drank fever and touch from it once

  17. شربتُ الحميَّا واللمى منه مرَّةً

    فلم أدرِ ما فرق الحميَّا من اللمى

    I didn't know how to discern fever from touch

    Joy we had seized with fangs of familiarity

  18. وعيشاً سلبناه بأسنمة النقا

    وما كانَ ذاكَ العيش إلاَّ منمنما

    That joy was none but pleasure and delight

    May God protect the loved ones we shepherded, our covenant

  19. رعى اللهُ أحباباً رعينا عهودهم

    وعهداً وصلناه ولكن تصرَّما

    A covenant we connected but they severed

    A songstress from the family of Yarab arbitrated

  20. وغانية من آل يعرب حكَّمَت

    هواها بقلبي ضلَّةً فتحكما

    Her love in my heart, lost, so she arbitrated

    The solitary, shining sword plunged in love

  21. أَحَلَّتْ مهاة الأبرق الفرد في الهوى

    دماً كانَ من قبل الغرام مُحرَّما

    Blood that was forbidden for love before

    In that valley disloyal souls

  22. وفي ذلك الوادي سوالب أنفسٍ

    رمينَ بأحداق السوانح أسهما

    Shot with the pupils of disasters, arrows

    How many hearts we wounded and didn't find

  23. وكم من فؤادٍ قد جرحن ولم نجد

    لما جرحت سود النواظر مرهما

    A remedy for what the black sights injured

    I see the whites don't keep the covenant of a lover

  24. أرى البيض لا يرعين عهداً لعاشقٍ

    وإن أوثق الصبُّ العهود وأبرما

    Even if the passion tied the firmest covenants

    Among people, if tested, you will find

  25. وفي الناسِ مَن إنْ تبتليه وَجَدته

    وقد كانَ شهداً في المذاقة علقما

    Honey in taste, bitter in reality

    I looked at people with the eye of a knower

  26. وإنِّي نظرتُ الناس نظرة عارفٍ

    وأبصرتهم خَلقاً وخُلقاً وميسما

    And saw them as people, characters and expressions

    My eyes never saw the like of Majid's glory

  27. فما أبصرتْ عيني كمحمود ماجداً

    ولا كشهاب الدين بالعلم معلما

    Nor anyone guiding knowledge like Shahab al-Din

    He belongs to the best of Allah's creation

  28. من السَّادة الغرّ الميامين ينتمي

    إلى خيرِ خلق الله فرعاً ومنتمى

    From the noble thinning branch of Meyyam

    When he rose with virtues sublime

  29. ولمَّا تعالى بالفضائل رفعة

    تخيلته يبغي العروج إلى السما

    I imagined him seeking ascension to the sky

    He is fierce, determined against every atheist

  30. هو الصارم الماضي على كلِّ ملحد

    من الله لم يفلل ولن يتثلَّما

    From God he never weakened or compromised

    Ask virtue from him and ask righteousness, you will be guided

  31. سل الفضلَ منه واسأل البرَّ تغتدي

    بأفضل ما حدثت عن من تقدَّما

    To the best of those who passed and preceded

    The heart of love was too narrow to conceal his virtue

  32. لقد ضاق صدر الهوى عن كتم فضله

    فأظهره إذ كانَ سرًّا مكتما

    So it revealed what was hidden and concealed

    The miracles of truth appeared at his rise

  33. بدت معجزات الحقّ حين ظهوره

    فأعجز فيها المبطلين وأفحما

    Bewildering the falsifiers, rendering them mute

    When the criticizing assailant saw him

  34. إذا المطْعن المقدام شامَ يَراعَه

    لما ظنَّه إلاَّ وشيجاً مقوَّما

    He thought him nothing but a sound and solid pillar

    From the darkness of his night emerges

  35. وينشق من ظلماء ليلِ مداده

    صباح هدًى لا يترك الليل مظلما

    A morn of guidance, leaving no night dark

    For him are books, leaving no ambiguity

  36. له الكتب ما أبقت من الغيّ باقياً

    ولا تركت أمراً من الدين مبهما

    Nor anything in religion left ambiguous

    He is none but God's mercy upon people

  37. وما هو إلاَّ رحمة الله للورى

    به ينقذ الله الأنام من العمى

    Through him God saves people from blindness

    If the eye of truth itself realized him

  38. فلو حققت عين الحقيقة ذاته

    لقلنا هو النور الذي قد تجسما

    We would say he is the light that took flesh

    Noble, he never gave so he'd be praised with munificence

  39. كريمٌ فما أعطى ليُمدح بالندى

    ولكنه يعطي الجزيلَ تكرّما

    But gives generously out of nobility

    The clouds of his hands unlike any

  40. مواطر أيديه المواطر دونها

    تهاطل إحساناً وتمطرُ أنعما

    Rain generosity and shower boons

    In vain the clouds pretend and swell

  41. وهيهات يحكيك السحاب وإن همى

    نوالاً وفيض البحر علماً وإن ظمى

    To match his bounty, though the sea envelops all knowledge

    We see you with the eye of criticism, superior to what we see

  42. نراك بعين النقد أفضل من نرى

    ولم نرَ أندى منك كفًّا وأَكرما

    And saw none more generous than you

    I swear if you were enriched or gained wealth

  43. وأقسمت لو أثريتَ أَو نلت ثروةً

    لما تركت جدواك في الأرض معدما

    You would not leave your home in poverty

    Your knowledge, no person encompassed it whole

  44. علومك ما حِيزتْ لشخصٍ جميعها

    فهل كانَ ذاكَ العلم منك تعلما

    So was that knowledge learned?

    You contained the sciences of religion, all

  45. حويت علوم الدِّين علماً بأسرها

    وأصبحت للعلم اللَّدُنيّ ملهما

    And came to inspiration in worldly knowledge

    You build God's religion with knowledge and piety

  46. تُشيِّد دين الله بالعلم والتقى

    ولو لم يشيِّده علاك تهدّما

    And if not for you exalted, it would have crumbled

    You protected God's limits from transgressors

  47. حميت حدود الله عن متجاوزٍ

    فلم نخشَ من خرقٍ وأنتَ لها حمَى

    So we don't fear breach while you guard

    He who gave you what you deserve

  48. وإنَّ الذي أعطاكَ ما أنتَ أهله

    أنالَكَ شأناً لا يزال معظَّما

    Will grant you a status forever revered

    So enjoy the reward of this fast and celebrate its holiday

  49. فنلْ أجرَ هذا الصَّوم واهنأ بعيده

    ورمْ مجدعاً أنفَ الحسود ومرغما

    And toss the nose of enviers humiliated and resentful

    I wish for the continuance of your glory

  50. وإنِّي منى أدعُ لمجدك بالبقا

    دعوتُ لنفسي أن أعزَّ وأكرما

    As I wished for myself to be honored and esteemed

    You remain the pride and might of Muslims

  51. فلا زلت فخر المسلمين وعزّها

    ألا فليفاخر فيك من كانَ مسلما

    Yes, let every Muslim pride himself in you
