1. O imam of the true religion and school—

all humankind depends upon your knowledge.

  2. May God be pleased with you: you made clear to the people

the beacon of guidance, and error vanished.

  3. You have filled the world with your knowledge, until

through knowledge you attained a height none can attain.

  4. Whenever the imams pronounce an opinion,

the final recourse is what you say.

  5. You alone are everyone’s exemplar in every respect;

from you come preeminence and comprehensive summation.

  6. May God’s mercy continue to descend

as long as mornings and evenings follow one another.

  7. It has embraced a sacred presence embodied in you,

and a grave enclosing you, made majestic by you.

  8. At its gates the mounts are made to kneel,

and beneath its boughs the travelers’ loads are set down.

  9. Triumphant is whoever visits it and whoever dwells there,

    bearing due submission and self-abasement.

  10. O you who pours forth breaths from his spirit—

Kamal implores you to grant him perfection.

  11. Longing bore him onward, setting out from Furūq,

and toward you lay his journey and passage:

  12. a visit that effaces sins, wherein lies

a gift and bounty for those who turn to God.

  13. With sincere and steadfast conviction,

his hopes brought him to your door.

  14. Though he was far away, he was summoned to you by

a journey from his homeland and a setting out.

  15. Neither vast deserts nor rugged tracts hindered him,

    nor terrifying wastes and mountains.

  16. He folded up the distance of the earth as though folding it

when he arrived, and no weariness befell him.

  17. If he should meet with acceptance from you, then he has

triumphed; there lie felicity and favor.

  18. No hopeful supplicant has failed to obtain what he hopes for,

and through you he has honor and a bond.

  19. You are the Pole in the realm of knowledge; from you

the spiritual poles and the abdāl draw their strength.

  20. Through you God has mercy upon us in the worlds,

    and our burdens are lightened.
