1. سرَيْنا لنمحو الإِثم أو نغنم الأَجرا

    لزورة من تمحو زيارته الوِزْرا

    We set out to erase sins or gain reward

    A visit of Zawra that erases the burden of sins

  2. وسارت وقد أرخى علينا الدُّجى سترا

    بنا من بنات الماء للكوفة الغرَّا

    She set out as dusk cast its veil upon us

    One of the daughters of water to glorious Kufa

  3. سبوحٌ سرت ليلاً فسبحان من أسرى

    تخيَّرتها دون السَّفائن مركبا

    Praiseworthy, she journeyed by night, so glory be to the One who journeyed by night

    I chose her over other ships as my vessel

  4. وأعْددْتُها للسَّير شرقاً ومغربا

    فكانت كمثل الطَّير إنْ رمت مطلبا

    And prepared her to travel east and west

    She was like a bird, if it desires something

  5. تمدّ جناحاً من قوادمه الصّبا

    تروم بأكناف الغريّ لها وكرا

    It spreads its wings with the southern winds

    It heads to the corners of the sand dunes for its nest

  6. وكانت تُحلَّى قبل هذا تجمُّلا

    وقد غذيت فيما أمرَّ وما حلا

    She used to adorn herself before with beauty

    And was nourished with what was commanded and what was permitted

  7. أظنّ على فقد الشَّهيد بكربلا

    كساها الأسى ثوب الحداد ومن حُلى

    I reckon the loss of the martyr of Karbala has clothed her

    In the garb of mourning, and stripped her adornment

  8. تجمّلها بالصبر لاعجها أعرى

    إلى موقفٍ سرنا بغير توقّف

    Patience adorned her, not nakedness

    We set out to a stand where I increase in weeping and yearning

  9. يزيد بكائي عنده وتلهُّفي

    ولما تجارينا بفلك ومدنف

    And when we raced on a boat and waves

    Each flowed to the best stance

  10. جرت وجرى كلٌّ إلى خير موقف

    يقول لعينيه قفا نبك من ذكرى

    It says to my eyes, stop, weep from the memory

    The boat carried us, so excellent is that to which we are carried

  11. ترامت بنا فلك فيا نعم مرتمى

    إلى دُرَّةِ الفخر الَّتي لن تقوّما

    To the precious pearl that cannot be equaled

    We waded to him while the sea roared

  12. فخضنا إليه والبحر قد طمى

    وكم غمرة خضنا إليه وإنَّما

    And how many surges we waded through to reach him

    Only one who seeks pearls dares to plunge into the deep sea

  13. يخوض عباب البحر من يطلب الدُّرَّا

    إلى مرقد يعلو السّماكين منزلا

    To the tomb that rises above the kosmos as an abode

    And has attained what the wine-pourer attained in loftiness

  14. وقد نالَ ما نال الصراح من العُلى

    نسير ولا نلوي عن السَّير معدلا

    We march on and do not deviate from the march, uncompromising

    We head to a tomb not approached by any, even if exalted

  15. نؤمُّ ضريحاً ما الضراح وإنْ علا

    بأَرفعَ منه لا وساكنه قدرا

    To one loftier than it, and its dweller of matchless worth

    The husband of the daughter of al-Mukhtar was outstanding

  16. فزوج ابنة المختار كانَ غضنفرا

    علا وارتضته الطهر من سائر الورى

    He ascended and purity chose him over all mankind

    Do you recognize this one whose glory is so prominent?

  17. أتعرف من هذا الَّذي طال مفخرا

    هو المرتضى سيف القضا أسدُ الشرى

    He is al-Murtada, the sword of destiny, the lion of mankind

    Ali, supporter of the faith, rather the husband of Fatima the radiant

  18. عليّ الذرى بل زوج فاطمة الزهرا

    عيون الورى إنْ لاحظت منه كنهه

    If the eyes of mankind glanced at his essence

    They would turn back in frustration, desisting from any likeness

  19. ترد عن التشبيه حسرى فينتهوا

    وإن مقاماً لا ترى العين شبهه

    And if they beheld a status no eyes can perceive a likeness for

    The status of Ali, may God honor his visage

  20. مقام عليٍّ كرَّم الله وجهه

    مقام عليٍّ ردَّ عين العُلى حسرى

    The status of Ali that caused the eyes of the lofty to turn back in awe

    Indeed, his tomb made the dust verdant

  21. لقد صيَّر الغبراءَ خضراءَ قبرُه

    وأشرقَ فيها في الحقيقة بدره

    And his full moon shone brightly in it

    Matching the divine miracle in his precious quality

  22. وقد وافق الإِعجاز لله درّه

    أثيرٌ مع الأَفلاك خالف دوره

    A wonder that transcends celestial spheres contrary to their circuit

    Above him is dust, and below him greenery

  23. فمن فوقه الغبرا ومن تحته الخضرا

    أحاطَ بنا علماً فليت سليقة

    He encompassed us with knowledge, if only the intellect

    Could gain precise sciences of his sublimity

  24. تفيد علوماً عن عُلاه دقيقة

    مجازاً وقد جزنا إليه طريقة

    By analogy, though we have fallen short of the path to him

    We reached him, and he is the All-Encompassing in truth

  25. أحطنا به وهو المحيط حقيقة

    بنا فتعالى أن نحيط به خُبرا

    It is futile for us to encompass him, so exalted

    With news inspired by God, I nearly heard out loud

  26. فطفْ في مقام حلَّ فيه ولبّه

    ترى العالم الأَعلى حفيفاً بتربه

    The arguments for him being the most deserving of them

    We made pilgrimage to the House of the Lofty beside him

  27. فكالمسجد الأَقصى وأيّ تشبّه

    تطوفُ من الأَملاك طائفة به

    In the evening we took refuge by the door of his hidden realm

    And the one whose pillars our Kaaba is aligned with

  28. فتسجد في محراب جامعه شكرا

    فأثنى عليه من علا مثل من دنا

    Is rightful for pilgrims to seek refuge by his door

    And touch the pillars of his Kaaba reverently

  29. وكلٌّ بما أثنى أجادَ وأحسنا

    فخرب من الدانين إذ ذاك أعلنا

    He pours down God's sciences dwelling in his precinct

    So he shares some that benefit and contain

  30. وحزب من العالين يهتف بالثنا

    عليه بوحيٍ كدْتُ أسمعه جهرا

    And accepts some before settling and after settling

    He is most deserving to partition out the graces, none other

  31. حججنا إلى بيت علا بجانبه

    عشيَّة آوينا إلى باب غابه

    For the two most virtuous, al-Hasanayn, through him is more fitting

    We took shade while many a winged angel and celestial sphere

  32. ومن قد سمت أركان كعبتنا به

    جديرٌ بأن يأوي الحجيج لبابه

    And needy ones from us and seekers of wishes

    Kiss, while eyelids are moistened with tears

  33. ويلمس من أركان كعبته الجدرا

    فيوض علوم الله من قدم حوى

    Ample wealth in life, and intercession for the sinful in the next

    We served the Commander of the Faithful in a spot

  34. فقسّم منها ما أفاد وما احتوى

    ومن قبل ما يثوي ومن بعد ما ثوى

    Where we rub our faces reverently

    And every believer serves the tomb of the Chosen One

  35. حريٌّ بتقسيم الفيوض وما سوى

    أبي الحسنين الأَحسنين به أحرى

    With eyelids and pupils of eyes

    And heated faces dirtied by dust

  36. ظللنا وكم جان لديه ومذنب

    وذي حاجة منَّا وصاحب مطلب

    We removed dust that was on the tomb of Haydar

    So it shone like the polished Indian sword

  37. يقبّل والأَجفان تهمي بصيّب

    ثرًى منه في الدُّنيا الثراء لمترب

    And no wonder in that pure place

    We wiped away the specks from the eyelid of the commemorated sword

  38. وللمذنب الجاني الشَّفاعة في الأخرى

    خدمنا أمير المؤمنين بموطنٍ

    The most magnificent of God's swords, the most famed

    Its brilliance appeared to us and became evident

  39. نعفّر فيه الوجه قَصْدَ تيمُّنِ

    ويخدم قبر المرتضى كلٌّ مؤمنٍ

    When we cleaned his tomb, so we became adorned

    Perplexing intellects and dazzling eyes

  40. بأهداب أجفانٍ وأحداق أعينِ

    وحرّ وجوه عفَّرتها يد الغبرا

    By God, we know not, though the brilliance shone forth

    Did we uncover a grave or clean a tomb?

  41. أزلنا غباراً كانَ في قبر حيدر

    فلاح كغمد المشرفيِّ المشهر

  42. ولا غروَ في ذاك المكان المطهر

    أمطنا القذى عن جفن سيف مذكر

  43. أجلّ سيوف الله أشهرها ذكرا

    تبدَّى سنا أنواره وتبيَّنا

  44. غداة جلونا قبره فتزيَّنا

    فحيَّر أفهاماً وأبهرَ أعيُنا

  45. فوالله ما ندري وقد سطع السَّنا

    جلينا قراباً أمْ جلونا قبرا
