May we be your ransom; do not hasten your blame, but wait,
For by your right, reproach is most painful to the heart.
Perhaps we have an excuse that wards off our rebuke,
And your heart is vast enough to accept such pleas.
Indeed, there are excuses which are not fitting to mention,
And because of them, my very soul is torn apart.
You are no stranger among a people who love you;
Your place among them is loftier than all the sons of time.
How many a sorrowful soul is maddened by your tribulation,
Spending the night upon the bed of sickness, writhing in pain.
My gathering remains, through you, a Sound Plural,
In a dwelling where separation has no power to take hold.
You brought 'If not' to act as the agent for its response,
Although in grammar, it is said to signify prevention.
And if you must be a stinger, then be the best of serpents,
And be a bee whose antidote drives away the venom.
