بديعةُ الحسنِ بالأضحى تهنيني

تزهو بحسن علا من غير تزيين

A marvel of beauty offers me greetings on the Feast of Sacrifice,

Glowing with a sublime beauty that needs no adornment.

تميس كالغصن إذ مرّ الشمال به

أو شاربٍ ثمل من خمر دارين

She sways like a bough when the north wind brushes past,

Or like a drinker intoxicated by the vintage of Darin,

تراه نشوان إذ دبّ الشمول به

يميل من طرب ميل الرياحين

Who appears euphoric as the chilled wine creeps through his veins,

Leaning with delight like swaying sweet basil.

هيفاء يبدو لنا من وجهها قمرٌ

من سحب فاحمها بانت بتلوين

Slender of waist, a moon rises for us from her face,

Emerging from the clouds of her jet-black hair in varied hues.

ترمي بألحاظها عن قوس حاجبها

تصيبني ثم تسبيني وتكويني

She shoots arrows of glances from the bow of her brow,

Striking me, taking me captive, and searing my soul.

وقد بدت ل طلوع الشمس مفرةً

فطال ترداد عيني بين شمسين

She appeared at sunrise, unveiling her brilliance,

So my gaze lingered long, darting between two suns.

ولست أدري أسُكري من نوافجها

أم تلك أنفاس أحبابي تحّيني

I know not if my intoxication comes from her musk-scents,

Or if the breaths of my beloved friends are reviving me.

أحبّتي لكم صفو الوداد كما

محضتموني ودّاً ليس بالدون

My loved ones, yours is my purest affection,

Just as you have offered me a love that is distinguished and high.

لا زلتم منهلا تحيا العطاش به

ومنزلاً لعفاة الخلق في الحين

May you remain a fresh spring giving life to the thirsty,

And a haven for those in need, offering immediate refuge.

أحيا إلهي أحبائي وزاد لهم

فضلا وأنزلهم أعلى العليين

May my God preserve my friends and increase them

In grace, and grant them a station in the highest heights.

واحفظ إلهي ما أوليتهم كرما

وقرّ أعينهم دنيا مع الدين

Preserve, O God, the generosity You have bestowed upon them,

And bring joy to their eyes in this world and in faith.

ودافع السوء عنهم يا إلهي ولا

تجعل سبيلاً عليهم للمعادين

Ward off all evil from them, O my God, and do not

Allow the hostile any path to harm them.

واجعل سرورهم صفوا بلا كدر

واجعل زمانهم أيام عيدين

Make their joy pure, untroubled by distress,

And let all their time be as joyous as festival days.

واسترهم برداء الحفظ يا أملي

بحرمة السر بين الكاف والنون

Veil them with the cloak of protection, O my Hope,

By the sanctity of the secret held between the Kāf and the Nūn.

بجاه خير الورى والتابعين له

آمين آمين يا ذا الفضل لبّيني

By the rank of the Best of Creation and those who follow him,

Amen, Amen, O Possessor of Grace, answer my prayer.
