يا ربّ يا ربّ يا ربّ الأنام ومن

إليه مفزعنا سرا وإعلانا

O Lord, O Lord, O Lord of mankind and who

O Lord, O Lord, O Lord of all mankind, and He

We flee to in secret and openly

In whom is our refuge, both in secret and openly,

يا ذا الجلال وذا الأكرام مالكنا

يا حيّ يا موليا فضلا وإحسانا

O You of majesty and generosity, our protector

O Possessor of Majesty and Generosity, our Sovereign,

O Living One, O Master, with grace and favor

O Ever-Living, O Bestower of grace and beneficence,

يا ربّ أيّد بروح القدس ملجأنا

عبد المجيد ولا تبقيه حيرانا

O Lord, support with the Holy Spirit our refuge

O Lord, support with the Holy Spirit our sanctuary,

Abdul Majeed, and do not leave him confused

Abd al-Majid—and do not leave him bewildered.

أبن الخلائف وأبن الأكرمين ومن

توارثوا الملك سلطاناً فسلطانا

The son of the Caliphs and son of the most generous, who

Son of the Caliphs, son of the most noble ones, and those who

Inherited the kingdom, sultan after sultan

Inherited the kingdom, Sultan succeeding Sultan.

أحيا الجهاد لنا من بعد ما درست

وضاعف المال أنواعا وألوانا

He revived jihad for us after it faded

He revived Jihad for us after its traces had faded,

And doubled the money in types and colors

And he multiplied wealth in all its types and hues.

فانصره نصرا عزيزا لا نظير له

حتى يزيد العدا هماً وأحزانا

So support him with unmatched mighty victory

So grant him a mighty victory that has no equal,

Until he increases the enemies in worries and sorrows

Until he increases the enemy in anxiety and sorrow.

واحفظ علاه وأرسل يا كريم له

من الملائك حفّاظاً وأعوانا

And protect his family, and send, O Generous One, to him

Preserve his high station, and send to him, O Generous One,

From the angels, guardians and helpers

From among the angels, guardians and helpers.

وانصر به الشرع وارفع يا رؤوف به

عن دينك الحق لا تعدمه برهانا

And support through him the Sharia, and elevate through him, O Compassionate One

Grant victory to the Divine Law through him, and raise, O Compassionate One, by his hand,

Your true religion, do not deprive it of proof

The banner of Your true religion; do not deprive him of proof.

واجمع إلهي قلوب المسلمين على

وداده أعله أعظم له شانا

And gather, my God, the hearts of Muslims upon

And gather, my God, the hearts of the Muslims upon

Loving him, make his glory greater

His love; elevate him and make his status supreme.

به الصواب أصب واجعل له فرجا

بطانة الخير أقطابا وأركانا

In him lies the right path and make for him an escape

Through him may the right course be struck, and grant him a relief,

Good advisors and pillars and cornerstones

And an entourage of goodness, spiritual poles and pillars.

واهدم وزلزل وفرق جمع شانئه

واجعل فؤادهم بالرعب ملانا

And demolish, shake, and scatter the group of his enemies

Destroy, shake, and scatter the gathering of his detractor,

And make their hearts filled with terror

And fill their hearts with terror.

وانصر وأيد وثبت جيش نصرته

أنصار دينك حقا آل عثمانا

And support, aid, and make steadfast his army of victory

Grant victory, support, and make steadfast the army of his aid,

Your religion's supporters, truly the family of Othman

The true helpers of Your religion, the House of Osman.

الباذلون بيوم الحرب أنفسهم

للّه كم بذلوا نفسا وأبدانا

Who sacrifice on the day of war themselves

Those who sacrifice their souls on the day of war—

For God, how many souls and bodies they sacrificed

For God’s sake, how many souls and bodies have they offered!

والضاربون ببيض الهند مرهفةً

تخالها في ظلام الحرب نيرانا

And strike with Indian steel swords sharpened

Striking with the white swords of India, sharpened,

Which in the darkness of war appear like fires

Which you would think, in the darkness of war, were flames.

والطاعنون بسمر الخط عالية

إذا العدو رآها شرعت باتا

And stab with spears of elegantly-written calligraphy

Piercing with the brown spears of Khatt, raised high;

When the enemy sees them the path parts from fear

If the enemy sees them, he is cut down instantly.

والمصطلون بنار الحرب شاعلة

مطلوبهم منك يا ذل الفضل رضوانا

And burn with the raging fires of war

Those who endure the heat of war while it blazes,

Whose reward from You, O Owner of Grace, is satisfaction

Seeking from You, O Possessor of Grace, only Your good pleasure.

والراكبون عتاق الخيل ضامرة

تخالها في مجال الحرب عقبانا

And who ride thoroughbred horses with wolfish speed

Riders of noble steeds, lean and fit,

In the arena of war they appear like eagles

You would mistake them in the field of war for eagles.

جيش إذا صاح صياح الحروب لهم

طاروا إلى الموت فرسانا ورجلانا

An army which when the cry of wars rises for them

An army which, if the war-cry calls out to them,

They fly to death, horsemen and infantry alike

They fly towards death, both horsemen and foot soldiers.

هم الجبال ثباتاً يوم حربهم

فصابرٌ من عداهم صبره خانا

They are mountains in steadfastness on their day of war

They are mountains of steadfastness on the day of their battle,

So whoever opposes them, his patience betrays him

While the patient one among their foes finds his patience fails.

هم الليوث ليوث الغاب غاضبةً

والليث لا يلتقي إن كان غضبانا

They are furious lions, lions of the angry forest

They are the lions, the lions of the thicket, enraged,

And a furious lion does not encounter except surrendering

And the lion is not to be met when he is angry.

هم الألى دأبهم شقّ الصفوف لدى

حملاتهم صار جيش الكفر دهشانا

They are those who always split ranks when

They are those whose habit is to cleave through ranks;

They attack, the army of disbelief turns confused

At their charges, the army of disbelief is left stunned.

الدافعون عن الإسلام كلّ أذىً

بأنفسٍ قد غلت قدرا وأثمانا

Repelling every harm from Islam with souls

Defenders of Islam against every harm,

Weighted in worth and prices

With souls that have become dear in value and price.

كم غمة كشفوا كم كربة رفعوا

وكم أزاحوا عن الإسلام عدوانا

How many worries they uncovered, how many distresses they lifted

How many griefs have they dispelled, how many distresses lifted,

And how much transgression against Islam they removed

And how much aggression have they removed from Islam!

يا ربّ زدهم بتأييد إذا زحفوا

واقطع بسيفهم ظلما وكفرانا

O Lord, increase them if they march forth with support

O Lord, increase them in support when they march forth,

And cut with their swords injustice and disbelief

And cut down, by their sword, oppression and disbelief.

ألق السكينة ربي في قلوبهم

وزدهم يا إله العرش إيمانا

Grant tranquility, my Lord, in their hearts

Cast tranquility, my Lord, into their hearts,

And increase, O God of the Throne, their faith

And increase them, O God of the Throne, in faith.

وجّهت وجهي أنلني ما دعوت به

بأهل بدرٍ حماة الدين أركانا

I directed my face to gain what I supplicated with

I have turned my face to You; grant me what I have prayed for,

By the people of Badr, the pillars of the religion

By the People of Badr, the protectors of the religion, its pillars.

من الإله لهم قال افعلوا وذروا

ما شئتم لكم أوجبت غفرانا

From God to them He said "Go forth and leave

Those to whom the Deity said: 'Do and leave

What you wish for yourselves I have obligated forgiveness"

Whatever you wish, for I have mandated forgiveness for you.'

أعني الألى صرح الحفاظ ذكرهم

باسمهم تاركا من خلفهم بانا

I mean those the keeper of the covenant mentioned

I mean those whose mention the guardians have declared clear,

With their names, leaving those after them surviving

Distinguishing, by their names, those who came after them.

بقطبهم أحمد المختار من مضمر

وسيد الخلق أملاكا وإنسانا

With their pole Ahmad the Chosen One from Mudhar

By their Pole, Ahmad the Chosen, from the tribe of Mudar,

And the Master of Creation, angels and humans alike

The Master of Creation, both angels and mankind.

كذا خليفته الصديق ملجأنا

وأعظم الناس إيمانا وإيقانا

Likewise his successor, the Truthful, our refuge

Likewise his successor, al-Siddiq, our refuge,

And greatest of people in faith and certainty

The greatest of people in faith and certainty.

وبالمكنى أبي حفص الذي افتتحت

به المغالق حتى صعبها هانا

And with the surname Abu Hafs whom

And by the one nicknamed Abu Hafs, by whom were opened

The strongholds were opened by until they seemed easy

The locks, until the most difficult of them became easy.

وبالخليفة ذي النورين ثالثهم

أعني بذلك عثمان بن عفانا

And with the Caliph of the Two Lights, their third one

And by the Caliph, the Possessor of Two Lights, their third—

I mean by that Uthman ibn Affan

I mean by that Uthman ibn Affan.

وبالإمام أخي المختار ذاك علي

من في الوغى بالعدا تلفيه فرحانا

And with the Imam my brother, the Chosen One, that is Ali

And by the Imam, brother of the Chosen One, that is Ali,

From whom in discord the enemies find him cheerful

Whom you find rejoicing against the enemy in the tumult of war.

وبابن عثمان عبد الله سيدنا

وابن البكير إياس ساد إعلانا

And ibn Uthman, Abdullah our master

And by the son of Uthman, Abdullah our master,

And ibn Bakir, Iyas, openly leading

And Ibn al-Bukayr, Iyas, whose sovereignty was proclaimed.

وحاطب وبلال ثم حمزة ذا

عم النبي كريم ساد قحطانا

Hudhaifa and Habib increasing acceptance

And Hatib, and Bilal, then Hamza—that

Ibn Rabi'a, my God, and ibn Rafi'a

Uncle of the Prophet, the generous one who surpassed Qahtan.

بسعدهم وأبي طلحة وسهلهم

كذا سعيد ظهير ساد عدنانا

Rifa'a and then Zaid, they were both lords

By their Sa'd, and Abu Talha, and their Sahl,

And Abu Zaid al-Zubayr, likewise Abu

Likewise Sa'id, the helper who led Adnan.

بصنوه وعبيد الله ثم أبي

حذيفةٍ وحبيب زاد رضوانا

Lababah the good, who strengthened the brothers

By his brother, and Ubaydallah, then Abu

And ibn Auf and Amr Uqbah and also

Hudhayfa, and Habib, who increased in Divine pleasure.

بابن الربيع إلهي وابن رافعهم

رفاعة ثم زيد سيدا كانا

Ubaydah protected by the religion

By Ibn al-Rabi', my God, and the son of their Rafi',

Amir and Khunays then Asam they

Rifa'a, then Zayd—both were masters.

وبالزبير أبي زيد كذاك أبو

لبابة الخير من قد عزّ إخوانا

Then ibn Samit who increased compliance

And by al-Zubayr, Abu Zayd, likewise Abu

Uwaymir then Atban, and indeed for them

Lubaba the Good, who strengthened his brothers.

وبابن عوف وعمرو عقبة وكذا

عبيدة من لدين الله قد صانا

Is a Lordship, and Mu'adh of good perfumed scent

And by Ibn Awf, and Amr, Uqba, and likewise

And Muawwidh and his brother, then Maslamah

Ubayda, who preserved the religion of God.

وعامر وخنيس ثم عاصهمهم

ثم ابن صامتهم من زاد إذعانا

And also Malik, Muqaddam of glory

And Amir, and Khunais, then their Asim,

Qudamah and Hilal matchless

Then the son of their Samit, who increased in submission.

عويمر ثم عتبان وحقّ لهم

سيادةٌ ومعاذ طاب أردانا

Murarah and Abu Fadl glorifying

Uwaimir, then Itban—and rightfully theirs is

I beseeched You O Lord of mankind through them

Sovereignty—and Mu'adh, of pure raiment.

ومعوذٍ وأخيه ثم مسطحهم

كذاك مالكهم مقدام ما شانا

I hope from You grace, forgiveness, and favor

And Mu'awwidh, and his brother, then their Mistah,

Then prayers upon the Chosen One our master

Likewise their Malik, the daring one who never disgraced.

قدامةٍ وهلال لا نظير لهم

مرارةٍ وأبيّ فضلهم بانا

Whom old age did not touch on the day of war

Qudama and Hilal—there is no equal to them—

Murara, and Ubayy, whose virtue is evident.

إني توسّلت يا رب الأنام بهم

أرجوك فضلا وغفرانا وإحسانا

I have sought intercession, O Lord of mankind, through them;

I hope from You for grace, forgiveness, and beneficence.

ثم الصلاة على المختار سيدنا

ما صارت الشيبُ يوم الحرب شيّانا

Then blessings be upon the Chosen One, our Master,

As long as the gray of age marks the warriors of battle.
