صاحَبتُ قَيساً صُحبَةً فَوَمِقتُهُ

صاحَبتُ قَيساً صُحبَةً فَوَمِقتُهُ

بِتِعشارَ لَم أَسمَع لَهُ بَعدُ قالِيا

بِتِعشارَ لَم أَسمَع لَهُ بَعدُ قالِيا

I kept Qays company and came to love him;

I befriended Qais with friendship, then grew to despise him

I accompanied Qays in friendship and came to love him,

At Ti‘shār, I never afterward heard of anyone who hated him.

For his constant complaining, of which I heard no end

At Ti'shar, where I heard no one speak ill of him.
