وقد كان إذا ضاقتْ عليّ

الحياةُ إلى نقائضِها هربتُ

الحياةُ إلى نقائضِها هربتُ

And once, whenever I was hemmed in

When life grew too narrow for me,

by life, I fled to its opposites.

I used to escape to its opposite.

أما وقد استحالت للنقيضِ

أما وقد استحالت للنقيضِ

أيقبلُ بي بعيد الموتِ موتُ؟

أيقبلُ بي بعيد الموتِ موتُ؟

But now that it has turned into its opposite,

But now that life has turned into death,

will a death accept me shortly after death?

Would death accept me after life's demise?
