بِالمال يَزدان أَهل الجَهل عَن حمق

بِالمال يَزدان أَهل الجَهل عَن حمق

كَما يزين ذَوات الأَربَع السمنُ

كَما يزين ذَوات الأَربَع السمنُ

With wealth, the ignorant are adorned out of folly,

With money the ignorant are adorned from folly

Just as fat adorns four-legged beasts.

As fat adorns the quadrupeds

فَالمال كَالغَيث في الدُنيا وَهُم دِمَنٌ

فَالمال كَالغَيث في الدُنيا وَهُم دِمَنٌ

وَكُلُّ خَضراء زهو تنبت الدمنُ

وَكُلُّ خَضراء زهو تنبت الدمنُ

For wealth is like rain in this world, and they are dung heaps,

So wealth in this life, and they are the fat ones

And dung heaps bring forth every green flourish of vanity.

And every greenery whose bloom grows the fat
