Who will aid a lovesick soul whose wish is unfulfilled,
He whose love did not reach the one he desired
Shedding tears, pouring them forth?
With tears flowing down his cheeks

وَهَوى الآرام قاهرُه
Possessed of a passion that has dealt him sorrow,
Passionately in love, anguished by yearning
And love for the gazelles overpowers him.
Longing for tranquility, but it overpowers him

لَم يَزَل دَوماً يساهرُه
And the reproaching women have burdened him with hardship,
Hardships have burdened him with suffering
Which never ceases to keep vigil with him.
He remains sleepless through the nights

Alas for my heart, still held in pledge,
Alas, my heart remains captive
While the gazelles abandon it in their pride.
While the gazelle freely roams away from it

And a gazelle swayed his spear-slender form;
A slender gazelle who has torn my soul
His eye bewitched minds.
Charming all hearts who gaze upon it

قَمر تَزهو مَظاهرُه
For his wondrous radiance, I would give my father as ransom—
With smooth, radiant cheeks
A moon whose features shine in splendor.
Free from any blemish near it

The fruit of his rosy cheek is sweet;
I have refrained from whomsoever lacks modesty
It is too sublime for doubt to come near it.
Until I can be wary of him

رَيثَما أَنّي أحاذرُه
I shielded my ear from whoever reproached me,
And lips like a brimming cup
For as long as I am wary of him.
Does he perhaps exchange glances with it?

And the wine of his lips is a cup of bliss;
Beyond what I hope for from him
Do you see a rival that can match it?
The trustworthy protector of glory

When I recite poetry to him
And Amin, the herald of glory—
I list his outstanding merits

He before whom, when I recite praise,
How much love we have bestowed
His noble deeds chant my words of praise.
The first fruits of which his benevolence yielded

A generous soul—how many favors he has bestowed,
Every beautiful meaning he attained
From bounty whose first showers poured freely!

Every quality he possessed was beautiful,
He is a rain of righteousness if we go astray
When his glories vied in splendor.
His firm resolve manifesting mightily

For he is the rain of benevolence; if it pours,
Neither does he attack nor encounter
His keen swords flash with might.
Victorious in all that he undertakes

May he never be worn down, meeting bliss and wishes,
Victorious in whatever he hastens to undertake.
