إِذا هَبَّت صَبا الأَسحار فَاِذكُر

إِذا هَبَّت صَبا الأَسحار فَاِذكُر

جَليس الذاكِرين وَبِرَّهُ اِشكُر

جَليس الذاكِرين وَبِرَّهُ اِشكُر

When the predawn east wind blows, remember

When the morning breeze blows, remember

the Companion of those who remember Him, and give thanks for His goodness.

The companion of those who remember, and thank his kindness

وَفي الأَكوان إِن رُمت التَفَكُّر

وَفي الأَكوان إِن رُمت التَفَكُّر

تَأمّل في رِياض الأَرض وَاِنظُر

تَأمّل في رِياض الأَرض وَاِنظُر

And if you seek to reflect upon the worlds,

And if you wander in thought throughout the universe

ponder the gardens of the earth, and look

Contemplate the gardens of earth, and look

إِلى آثار ما صنع المَليكُ

إِلى آثار ما صنع المَليكُ

سَقاها الغَيث وَهوَ لها حَياة

سَقاها الغَيث وَهوَ لها حَياة

at the traces of what the Sovereign has made.

At the traces of what the King has made

The rain watered them, and it is life for them.

The rainwatered it and it is for them life

فأزهر نَرجسٌ وَزَها نَبات

فأزهر نَرجسٌ وَزَها نَبات

لِنرجسها إِذا وُصِفَت صِفاتٌ

لِنرجسها إِذا وُصِفَت صِفاتٌ

So narcissus bloomed, and vegetation flourished.

So the narcissus has blossomed and the plants have flourished

Their narcissi, when described, have these qualities:

If the attributes of its narcissi are described

عُيون مِن لجين شاخِصات

عُيون مِن لجين شاخِصات

بِأَحداق هِيَ الذَهب السَبيكُ

بِأَحداق هِيَ الذَهب السَبيكُ

eyes of silver, gazing fixedly,

Eyes of smooth mud staring

with pupils of cast gold.

With eyelids, it is solid gold

رَنَت وَلَها وُجوهٌ ناضِراتٌ

رَنَت وَلَها وُجوهٌ ناضِراتٌ

لآلاء المهيمن ناظِرات

لآلاء المهيمن ناظِرات

They gazed, with radiant faces

They rang, and they have radiant faces

looking upon the blessings of the Guardian,

Looking at the blessings of the All-Dominant

وَأَلسنةٌ خَواشع حامِدات

وَأَلسنةٌ خَواشع حامِدات

عَلى قضب الزَبَردج شاهِدات

عَلى قضب الزَبَردج شاهِدات

and humble tongues giving praise,

And tongues reciting humbly

upon stems of peridot, bearing witness

Witnessing on rods of emerald

بِأَنَّ اللَه لَيسَ لَهُ شَريكُ

بِأَنَّ اللَه لَيسَ لَهُ شَريكُ

فَسُبحان الَّذي خَلق السَجايا

فَسُبحان الَّذي خَلق السَجايا

that God has no partner.

That God has no partner

So glory be to Him who created innate qualities,

So glory be to Him who created elegance

وَخَصّص كُلّ خَلقٍ في مَزايا

وَخَصّص كُلّ خَلقٍ في مَزايا

شَهدنا أَنَّهُ مولي العَطايا

شَهدنا أَنَّهُ مولي العَطايا

and set each creature apart with special qualities.

And specialized each creation in virtues

We have borne witness that He is the Bestower of gifts,

We testify that He is the Grantor of gifts

وَأَنّ مُحَمّداً خَير البَرايا

وَأَنّ مُحَمّداً خَير البَرايا

إِلى الثقلين أَرسَلَهُ المَليكُ

إِلى الثقلين أَرسَلَهُ المَليكُ

and that Muhammad is the best of created beings;

And that Muhammad is the best of creations

the Sovereign sent him to the two communities—humankind and jinn.

To both worlds the King sent him
