قَدindeed أَخَذناwe received عَنكُمfrom you رِوايةan account صدقtruth
قَد أَخَذنا عَنكُم رِواية صدق
هِيَit حَقٌّtrue لِأَنَّهاbecause it ذاتpossessing ثَبتِfirm proof
هِيَ حَقٌّ لِأَنَّها ذات ثَبتِ
We have received from you a truthful account.
We have taken from you a narration of truth
It is true, for it has firm proof.
It is true because it is firmly established
إِنَّindeed بَعضsome of الأَنامhumankind أَقرىentertained ضُيوفاًguests
إِنَّ بَعض الأَنام أَقرى ضُيوفاً
فَرَماهُمthen he assailed them مِنbecause of الأَكولthe glutton بِمقتِwith loathing
فَرَماهُم مِن الأَكول بِمقتِ
Indeed, someone among humankind entertained guests,
Some people hosted guests
then assailed them with loathing because of the glutton.
Then pelted them with food out of disdain
لَيسَit is not بدعاunprecedented فَقَدfor sometimes تَجيءcome الرَزاياcalamities
لَيسَ بدعا فَقَد تَجيء الرَزايا
فاجآتunexpectedly فَلاso not تخصُّare confined بِوَقتِto a time
فاجآت فَلا تخصُّ بِوَقتِ
This is nothing unprecedented, for calamities may come
It is not strange, calamities do occur
unexpectedly, and are not confined to any time.
They came suddenly, not confined by time
قَدindeed أَخَذناwe measured اِرتفاعهاits elevation فإذاand behold هيit
قَد أَخَذنا اِرتفاعها فإذا هي
دَرجاتdegrees أَتَتcame عَلىalong غَيرother than سَمتِa bearing
دَرجات أَتَت عَلى غَير سَمتِ
We measured its elevation, and behold, it was
We witnessed it rising high
degrees reached along the wrong bearing.
