They said, 'So-and-so is light,' and I hastened to offer them
They said so-and-so is fickle, so I rushed
an excuse for him, then did not stray from the matter at hand.
To defend him, yet did not deviate from composure.
فَقُلتso I said ماno فيهِin him نَقصdeficiency لَوif وزنتI weighed لَكُمfor you

So I said, 'There is no deficiency in him, were I to weigh for you
I said there is no flaw in him. If I were to weigh
his qualities, O full moons of forbearance and sound judgment.
For you his traits, O full moons of dreams and wisdom,
ماwhatever خَفَّbecame light مِنof عَقلهhis mind يَوماًever فَقَدfor indeed ثَقلتgrew heavy

What his mind has ever lacked in weight is offset by the heaviness
His intellect has never lightened. Rather,
of his temperament, so he has neither lost nor gained.'
His nature has been weighed down by it, neither less nor more.
