أَخوa man of المَجدglory باذلُone who bestows إِحسانِهِhis kindness
أَخو المَجد باذلُ إِحسانِهِ
سَيَلقىhe will find الرِجالmen كَأَخدانِهِlike his close companions
سَيَلقى الرِجال كَأَخدانِهِ
The man of glory freely bestows his kindness;
The brother of glory, spending his kindness,
He will find men like his close companions.
Will meet men as if they were his brothers.
فَماfor … not المُلكsovereignty إِلّاexcept بِأَعوانِهِthrough its helpers
فَما المُلك إِلّا بِأَعوانِهِ
وَماand … not المَرءa man إِلّاexcept بِإخوانِهِthrough his brothers
وَما المَرء إِلّا بِإخوانِهِ
For sovereignty rests only upon its helpers,
For kingship is naught but through supporters,
And a man rests only upon his brothers,
And a man is naught but through his comrades.
كَماjust as يَقبضgrips الكَفُّthe hand بِالمعصمِby means of the wrist
كَما يَقبض الكَفُّ بِالمعصمِ
فَجُدso be generous تَغدُwill become علياكyour eminence مَرفوعَةًraised
فَجُد تَغدُ علياك مَرفوعَةً
Just as the hand grips by means of the wrist.
As the fist clasps with the wrist,
So be generous: your eminence will be raised,
So strive, that you may be raised high
وَأَعلامand the banners ضدِّكyour adversary مَوضوعَةًlowered
وَأَعلام ضدِّك مَوضوعَةً
فَلاfor there is no بِرَّgoodness فيin اليَدthe hand مَمنوعَةًheld back
فَلا بِرَّ في اليَد مَمنوعَةً
And your adversary's banners laid low.
And flags against you laid low.
For there is no goodness in a hand held back,
No good in a hand that's barred from giving,
وَلاand no خَيرgood فيin الكَفِّthe hand مَقطوعَةًsevered
وَلا خَير في الكَفِّ مَقطوعَةً
وَلاand no خَيرgood فيin الساعدthe forearm الأَجزمِthe maimed
وَلا خَير في الساعد الأَجزمِ
Nor any good in a severed hand,
No good in a palm that's cut off from bounty,
Nor any good in a maimed forearm.
No good in an arm that's bent and feeble.
