O you whom time has assailed with its hardship,

Seek refuge in the Prophet; you will gain the fortress of his protection.

And recite, when you reach the abode of his eminence:

O master, beneath whose banner all stand,

Either hoping for his bounty or possessing it.

Will he not, then, find safety from calamities—

A servant who has hidden his love for you within his heart?

I am one who has high hopes of winning your approval.

I have come to your door to succeed, for

Many a seeker of refuge at your lofty door succeeds.

Who, within the sanctuary of your eminence, is troubled

By time's calamities, even if its disasters assail him?

O you whose fragrance heals the sickness of hearts,

I complain to you of wasting illness, and you are its physician.

And I am ailing, while this age is my foe in combat.

My master, O you to whom I have stretched out my hand,

In poverty—do not cast me away for my wrongdoing.

Forgive my shortcomings, for your approval is my aim.

And incapacity is my excuse for falling short in your praise, my master.

So, by your grace, mend the helpless one's broken heart.
