أَيا روحَ روحي رَأَيت العَجَب

أَيا روحَ روحي رَأَيت العَجَب

لِبُعدك يا غايَتي وَالأَرَب

لِبُعدك يا غايَتي وَالأَرَب

O soul of my soul, I have seen wonders,

O spirit of my soul, I saw a wonder

because of your distance, O my goal and desire.

For your distance, O my ultimate desire and perplexity

فَإِن أَكُ أَذنَبت يا سَيّدي

فَإِن أَكُ أَذنَبت يا سَيّدي

فَإِنّ شَديد عِقابي وَجَب

فَإِنّ شَديد عِقابي وَجَب

For if I have sinned, O my lord,

If I have sinned, O my master

then indeed my harsh punishment is deserved.

Then severe is my due punishment

وَإِن كانَ لا ذَنب لي في الهَوى

وَإِن كانَ لا ذَنب لي في الهَوى

فَقُل لي لِهَذا الجَفا ما السَبَب

فَقُل لي لِهَذا الجَفا ما السَبَب

And if I am guilty of no sin in love,

And if I have no sin in passion

then tell me: what is the reason for this coldness?

Then tell me, what is the cause of this estrangement
