ياO بَدرfull moon آفاقhorizons المَعاليeminence وَمَنand one whose
يا بَدر آفاق المَعالي وَمَن
زانَadorned علاهhis exalted rank كُلّevery وَصفquality حَميدpraiseworthy
زانَ علاه كُلّ وَصف حَميد
O full moon of the horizons of eminence, and you whose
O full moon, horizons of glory, and who
exalted rank is adorned by every praiseworthy quality,
Adorned its height with every praiseworthy description
هنئتmay you be congratulated بِالنَجلon the son السَعيدfortunate الَّذيwho
هنئت بِالنَجل السَعيد الَّذي
أَسفَرunveiled عَنfrom طالعdawning عيدa feast سَعيدhappy
أَسفَر عَن طالع عيد سَعيد
Congratulations on the fortunate son who
Congratulations on the auspicious son who
unveiled the dawning of a happy feast.
Dawned with the rising of a happy feast
جاءَhe came بِعيدwith the feast of الفِطرbreaking the fast حَتّىso that لَقَدindeed
جاءَ بِعيد الفِطر حَتّى لَقَد
سرَّgladdened مَواليناour masters وَسرّand gladdened العَبيدthe slaves
سرَّ مَوالينا وَسرّ العَبيد
He came with Eid al-Fitr, so that he indeed
The Feast of Breaking Fast has come, and indeed
gladdened our masters and gladdened the slaves.
It delighted our loyalists and the servants
هَذاthis عَطاءgift اللَهGod سُبحانهglory be to Him
هَذا عَطاء اللَه سُبحانه
نِلناهwe attained it بِالصَبرthrough patience عَلىwith ماwhat تُريدyou desire
نِلناه بِالصَبر عَلى ما تُريد
This is God's gift—glory be to Him—
This is the gift of Allah, glory be to Him
which we attained through patience with what you desire.
We attained it with patience for what You will
سُبحانglory be to مَنthe One who أَعطىgave لَناto us نعمةa blessing
سُبحان مَن أَعطى لَنا نعمة
بِشُكرِهاthrough gratitude for it تَنموit grows وَنَرجوand we hope for المَزيدmore
بِشُكرِها تَنمو وَنَرجو المَزيد
Glory be to Him who gave us a blessing
Glory to Him who gave us the blessing
that grows through gratitude for it; and we hope for more.
With thanking it, it grows and we hope for more
تقارنَcoincided العيدانthe two feasts لَكنّماyet
تقارنَ العيدان لَكنّما
مَولدهhis birth كانَwas لَناfor us خَيرthe best عيدfeast
مَولده كانَ لَنا خَير عيد
The two feasts coincided, yet
The feasts coincided, but
his birth was for us the best feast.
His birth was for us the best feast
فَياso, O لَهُfor it عيداًa feast سَعيداًhappy حَوىencompassed
فَيا لَهُ عيداً سَعيداً حَوى
أرّخrecord the date بَهاءsplendor بِالغلامthrough the boy السَعيدfortunate
أرّخ بَهاء بِالغلام السَعيد
So what a happy feast it was, encompassing—
Oh what a happy feast contained
record the date—splendor through the fortunate boy!
