ياO أَيُّهاyou (vocative) الغُصنthe branch اِنعَطفbend نَحوَناtoward us
وَلاand do not تَخفfear فيin الحُبّlove مَنwhoever يَلحاreproaches
O branch, bend toward us.
O you, the bending branch, turn towards us,
And in love, fear no one who reproaches.
And fear not in love whoever competes,
وَلاand do not تَقُلsay إِنّيindeed I am فَتىًa youth أمردbeardless
وَاِضحكand laugh عَلىat الكوسجthe scant-bearded man وَالأَلحىand the heavily bearded man
And do not say, "I am a beardless youth."
Say not, “I am a refractory youth,”
And laugh at the scant-bearded man and the heavily bearded one.
And laugh at the cuirass and the lances,
وَاِمنعهماand deny them both إِنif رَضياthey both are pleased عَطفَةًa gesture of affection
وَزِدهُماand give them both more إِنif غَضباthey both grow angry سلحاexcrement
And deny them both a gesture of affection if they are pleased.
Restrain them if they agree to bend,
And give them both more shit if they grow angry.
And if they get angry, give more arms.
