O beloveds of my heart, if you take pleasure

In slaying me with grief, I have surrendered my lot to fate.

Indeed, by nights whose sweetness ended after you left,

The east wind passes without pause by the dweller of Dhu al-Ghada,

And its gusts strike down my heart when it blows.

I am lost in longing at the thought of you whenever there sings

A dove, lovesick through the night at the memory of its mate.

And I do yearn for the east wind, for in the protected grounds it is

Fresh from the beloved's presence; and only

Where its beloved dwells does each soul's longing lie.
