لا وَمن قدّر الفراقَ عَلينا
لَمdid not يَزدنيincrease in me البعادُdistance إلّاexcept غَراماardent love
لَم يَزدني البعادُ إلّا غَراما
No, by Him who decreed separation upon us,
No, he who destined our parting
Distance has only increased my ardent love.
Has but distanced me in love
بلrather حللتyou dwelt الفؤادthe heart منّيof mine فكانتand so they became
بل حللت الفؤاد منّي فكانت
بكthrough you برداًcoolness نيرانهُits fires وَسلاماand peace
بك برداً نيرانهُ وَسلاما
Rather, you dwelt in my heart, and so
Rather, you settled my heart and it became
Through you its fires became coolness and peace.
